Wow the US disc is ridiculously better, like it isn't even funny. I see it's region free too, so I might have to import it.

The US disc de-saturates the intended stylized color scheme Marshall was aiming for in the movie. The UK disc is more faithful to Marshall's vision for the movie. I also prefer the color scheme much more than the US disc.

But the director doesn't always have the best intentions over everyone else, the clarity on the US disc is astounding compared to the UK one.

I saw it twice in theaters and it looked more like the US disc than UK.

I don't know which is the preferred way to see the movie...all I know is the US Lionsgate transfer is known for being an exceptional transfer.

edit: I think I got the current transfer mixed up with the previously superior US transfer. I will need to pick up the UK steelbook.

Fixed ^

The US has blown out highlights, DNR detail loss, jacked brightness and weaker compression.

Edit: I'd be happy to trade...

What

You can't be serious. It's the opposite.

Wtf did the US distributor do to Marshall's vision. omg
Lionsgate is normally not that bad. What the hell happened.

Clear case of Poe's law.
Well except for that one director called George Lucas

The US versions actually looks like film, the UK version looks like a digital mess. It did not look like that in theaters, so it's revisionism plain and simple. The US disc isn't perfect, but I'd rather that than the oversaturated overly constrasty UK one.

I think it's only when you put both transfers side by side that people will say the US disc is too bright, or contrast isn't right, and that's mostly a product of seeing the out of whack UK disc right next to it.

The clarity on the US one is so noticeably better I don't understand how no one but MifuneFan can see the difference? :S
