I went to Best Buy yesterday to get a copy of 2001 since amazon screwed me over, and saw they expanded the BD section to fill 4 whole racks from top to bottom stretching from the center aisle around to the back. The HD-DVD section only get up to 3 and were only on the backside. They also put BDs on the end of the aisle.
Looks great! Hope it keeps growing faster than HD-DVD.

Ironically I too just left Bestbuy...

The girl in the Magnolia section flat out told me that Blu is winning and that she sees much more blu going out then HD.

Her comment was that Disney is the seller and that because of that, families are going blu.

You win some you lose some... fight the war, not the battle.

A Best Buy employee cannot disparage any product that BBY sells. You could have gotten him fired on the spot if you wanted.

you gotta hand it to Disney

They have the highest average PQ and SQ BY FAR. You know you're getting quality from Disney

If you don't fight the battles then you lose the war. To help clarify, a war is made up of many battles and the success of those battles helps determine the end of the war.

How happy would that Best Buy employee have been if he lost his job standing up for HD DVD? He has to learn there is a time and a place for spewing lies and while you are on the job is not one of them. Is ones job worth promoting HD DVD over Blu-ray? For this employee maybe it is.

You should give your son a rain-check for a 40GB PS3 that is a gift he can get a good 10 years out of.

Best Buy is an interesting place to say the least. I remember a few years back when they were pushing full screen DVD's. In their ads they would feature a new release with the full screen banner and then in tiny lettering - "also available in widescreen". I would go in to the store to pick up a new release and the shelves would be stocked with full screen and I would have to look high and low for the widescreen disc. A couple of times I would have to ask one the clerks and they would genrerally say they were sold out or some BS. They would sometimes ask me while I was purchasing them - "do you know your purchasing the widescreen version". I would politely responds "yes I am , thanks". I could never understand what the biz reason was for that. They would push widescreen tv's but, push full screen DVD's - go figure.

As far as the BD/HD my local BB in San Francisco seems to have an equal amount of shelf space for both formats. I do notice there are more people checking out Blu Ray and purchasing then HD. The only thing that has happened at the check out counter happened yesterday. I purchased Halloween. T2, Shining, 2001 and Clockwork. The sales person asked if I had a Blu Ray player and I said "yes". She said we have had a few people by them and the return them because they didn't work. Some people didn't know they needed a Blu Ray player to play these. So, I have been asking people to make sure they have the right equipment.
No harm, no foul.

My BB also just got a full lane and 1/3 of the next lane next to HD-DVD's 1/3 of a lane. Ha ha.

But seriously, that employee spewing that to how many blu customers does he see each day? That really sucks. You should ask his manager if that is Best Buy's official stance. That should prompt a little discussion with his employee.

Well, a lot of men are more willing to buy something from a good looking girl.

you probably could have started some big shit as said above. I prefer humbling people a bit instead of getting them fired. I did get a bank assistant manager fired once. that was nice. she was a c u next tuesday and decided to massively insult me.

I recently had a problem with bbuy. I tried to return a b1g1 title, the guardian, the other day for whatever they'd give me ($15 I figured) but the girl there rang it up for $0 and said 'thank you' putting it in her returns basket. I made her give it back since I wouldn't return it for nothing. I went back yesterday talked to their head cashier or whatever they're called, he gave me a copy of the shining on blu for the guardian (which again, was $15). so he redeemed bbuy in my eyes. I am a cheap bribe.

I did say "could" and not "should". I agree though, he shouldn't have been fired, he was just a cashier.

I hate Best Buy, the only reason I would buy there is for instant gratification, otherwise I think they are just way over-priced on everything, and at least in my area, the employees seem to be very lacking in the knowledge department. I have educated some of them, but like the story from an earlier poster, I did have one employee ask me, "why bother? just get it on HD-DVD, that's the way to go...", right out of the blue. Then he argued with me how Blu-ray was a waste of time. Pissed me off, and I gave him a piece of my mind... I know that one person doesn't reflect the company as a whole, but those are the type of experiences that keep me from going back to places.
