I will never accept someone else suddenly replacing him. If they want to make an adventure movie in the same style ... Just do that. And create a character. But don't steal a name like "Indiana Jones" and go put it on another movie and/or actor. Big nono.
Connery played Bond for 5 movies(in his initial run) and eventually audiences accepted other actors in the role. I think a new Indiana Jones actor could work, but it would have to be cast right. Pattinson would be a joke. Indy has to be played by a real man, not some pansy best known for a bunch of vampire movies geared toward teenage girls. And BTW, can we please keep the role in the hands of an American actor? We've already cast a Brit as every big-name comic book superhero.

But Bond was created in 1953 and the first movie came in 1962. Although he gave his own twist on the character, it's not like Ford who kinda invented Dr. Jones (written for him ofcours) the way we know him. He is Indiana Jones. It's not the kind where you ask : Who should / could play this character we already know? Like was the case with Bond.

Actually, Indiana Jones wasn't written for Harrison Ford. He wasn't even the first choice. The part was initially offered to Tom Sellick, who had to pass due to television conflicts.

But I agree that Ford now personifies Indiana Jones. Would be hard to see anyone else in the role.

But Connery WAS Bond by the time he played the role a few times. Certainly by the time he reached You Only Live Twice. Hell, part of the reason he got fed up and quit the role(temporarily) was the Japanese press constantly calling him Bond. Yet audiences eventually accepted Roger Moore in the role in the 70's.

I think another actor as Indy can work if done right. It's not like Harrison Ford is the only one to portray the character. River Phoenix and Sean Patrick Flanery have both played him(I'll ignore the old 90-something Indy with the eyepatch).

Totally this!! Ford IS Indy and you can't replace him period. Its the same situation with Han Solo, Ford is the character and he can virtually never be played by anyone else.

I must also ask people to stop mentioning that shite actor Bradly Cooper, don't want him anywhere near the franchise.

And as for Matthew McConaughey he has already done the Indy thing in 'Sahara'. While he wasn't bad he wasn't the right type either, with his tash he actually came across as more of an Errol Flynn type in that film.

Currently I cannot think of any credible up & coming actor to play Indy. Ford owns this role and perhaps doing one more can make up for the fourth movie which was decent in its effort, but lacked any real charm and whit that the other films held, plus Shia Lapoop, well don't get me started.....

I'm with you man Shia is one of the worst pieces of s**t to ever hit Hollywood. Sorry for being so emotional but I cannot stand that poor excuse of an actor. He ruins every movie he is in.

Where they screwed up in a way is never having a real rival in the original films. If Indy had said a line like "I need to find it before Stevens gets his hands on it", you would have a character that you could spin off even now without rebooting the series but as far as I can remember, that never happened and creating one now wouldn't go over with the fans. You have to think there are more guys than just 1 doing this sort of thing.

but it goes back to the fact that Bond was a character before Connery where as Indy wasn't. When the actor helps create the character, it is harder to replace them. Look at JJ's Trek crew - some are good at the role but others don't really seem to catch the character as they are afraid to imitate the original actor. Same here - how hard would it be for someone to make Indy overmacho and turn him into a joke? wouldn't take much.

I know, but there were changes as soon as Ford was on board, cause he had a different sort of charisma. That what's Spielberg said in the HUMO interview when the last part came out. Ford also did some (what would be typical Jones) stuff that wasn't even scripted and in that way, he created the Jones we know.

I also can't imagine anyone else as Indiana. And the names that have been rumored just don't feel right to me. It's like when they replaced the A-Team ... It just didn't work. For me.

The only way an Indiana Jones reboot is going to work is to wait about 100 years when all of us are gone. 100 years from now, people will have no idea who Harrison Ford was or even remember him. Then you can successfully recast Indiana Jones and no one will be the wiser.

Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones to me.

Instead of retreading this revered character, why not come up with something new and original, such as "Colorado Smith"?

Nobody can replace Ford. Nobody. Only 4 films, but he's been Indy for 33 years, him alone. We've watched those 4 films countless times. This is not James Bond, he's got more movies for a longer time but because the actor has been changing frequently, we never associate the character with a single face.

I don't mind Pratt, I just don't see him as Indy. This would simply be a case of picking somebody who is on a hotstreak at the moment. And that's not saying his streak won't last, simply that too many times people are picked simply for that reason alone.
