I always thought all dubs and subs revert to original owner?

I admit I actually don't really know how it works.

Same here, there is plenty of time to save up. Just gonna have to say no to any Funi, Sentai releases for those months and only spend $ to finish of Kill la Kill releases.

Major bummer there will not be english subs included with the set. Maybe they know that they won't get as much from english licensors if they included english subs and/or an English dub.

It will be interesting to find out when a release for the English markets will be. Anyone wanna roll the dice and say when they believe an English release wil happen. And what about which licensor will releases it now that ADV is dead? I reckon sometime Q4 2016. And to narrow it down even more, I put down 1$ for a November release so there is plenty of time for Christmas.

Looks like nothing new unfortunately. But I don't think Japan really does new special features for catalogue releases that often. That and Anno is probably too busy making sure 3.0+1.0 never comes out... :P

It's been confirmed there will be a new HD Telecine, which means all signs point to it being the best release of Eva to date.

Definitely will be Q4 next year at earliest and if I had to take a stab at it Funimation will get it and release it around the same time they did Bebop last year.

In that case I'm definitely preordering the Japanese release. I'll buy whatever US release eventually comes out, but I'd want the original for quality control.

I'd be happy if they'd do Eva like they did those recent Index Blu-rays. Plus 24bit PCM sound plz

The episodes are actually an 8/4 split across the two discs. Never thought I'd see the day.

They still make their fair share of technical gaffes, and I personally dislike their (and others') practice of packing as many episodes as they can onto discs.

Evangelion is also my #2 anime franchise in terms of favoritism, so it's one I often make an exception toward splurging.

Regarding DEATH, there have been three versions. The differences between each are added or deleted scenes and dialogue, but the overall flow of the movie remains the same.

DEATH is the original version shown in the original theatrical run of Death and Rebirth. It is finally included in this BD set.
DEATH(TRUE) was shown on the cable network WoWow one time and has never been released on video, until now. It's included in the forthcoming TV Broadcast DVD set.
DEATH(TRUE)2 is the version that has been released on VHS, LD, DVD, and the Revival of Evangelion.

According to one Japanese site, there are about 18 differences between DEATH and DEATH(TRUE)2. In particular, there is a whole scene with Asuka deleted (sounds very much like a scene added to the Video cut of episode 22).

Ah, I forgot there was DEATH(TRUE) and DEATH(TRUE)2. But then I guess this means there won't be DEATH(TRUE)/2 on BD then, just the theatrical version. In other words they want you to buy both boxsets to be complete, but even then, it still won't be. Argh, this is stupid!

Isn't Revival also included in the BD set?

Yes it is. So I guess only DEATH(TRUE) and the broadcast versions of the TV show aren't on Blu-ray. That's not too bad, but I still think releasing the broadcast versions as a separate thing is still a bit much.

Also, I hope the final packaging is as good as the Japanese DVD boxset in the red plastic case. To this day I still think that thing is crazy awesome looking.

Yes, DEATH(TRUE) will only be in the DVD set. It is a shame that the broadcast TV set isn't on BD as well.

Personally I hope the BD set doesn't look anything like the old DVD set. The red case was useless and bothersome to get the DVDs out of, the DVDs were in a small Digibook like packaging with a CD sized booklet and reprints of the LD inserts. At the time, if you wanted the nicer DVD sized booklets and the new Sadamoto illustrations, you had to pony up for the standard edition that lacked the bonus DVD.

I also hope the packaging will be fancy but ultimately practical.

I've never actually seen the old DVD set in the flesh, only pictures, so I had no idea it was so badly designed from a practical point of view. Still, it'll always look cool to me. Here's hoping they get both looks and practicality right this time round.

It looked cool, but it really definitely wasn't practical.
