Anybody heard of any discounts on the blu-ray? It's coming soon and it's really high priced...

There'll be some sorts of discount, and we should probably hear about it in the next couple days in the Hot Deals section. Target likely won't carry this in-store, but BB probably will and maybe WM too.

Based on other recent Universal SyFy releases then I'm guessing it will be around $35 at release, and probably slowly trend down. Eventually there'll be some better discounts, $25, maybe $20, but that might not happen for months.

I agree that Best Buy will likely carry it, and possibly for a low as $30 (I base this on BB pricing 12 Monkeys: Season 1 for that). In my area, though, I would say it was more likely that Target will carry it in-store than Wally World. It's something of a crap shoot as to whether Target will carry most TV shows on Blu-ray, but in this area, Wally almost never does.

At any rate, as the release date gets closer, I've no doubt that Amazon will drop their first-week price on it.

I hope it goes as low as $30 at BB. That's interesting about your Target vs. WM experiences. Target in my area hasn't carried any SyFy shows in years, though WM occasionally does. Different regions I guess.

And of course you're right about Amazon going lower, though the question as usual is if they will go as low as BB and how long it will take them to get there.

If you're limiting it to "SyFy shows", meaning shows that aired on the SyFy Channel, that's probably a different story. I can't honestly say that I've ever seen any of those at Target (at least, on BD rather than DVD) other than maybe Lost Girl. But I haven't seen them at Wally World, either. I was thinking in terms of TV shows in general.

In my neck of the woods, about the only TV show that Wally is almost guaranteed to have on Blu-ray is Game of Thrones (and that's all TV, not just sf/fantasy). They didn't even carry any of the seasons of The X-Files, for example, while Target did.

Target is almost guaranteed to have all of the HBO, Showtime, and AMC shows on Blu-ray as well as DVD. They even carried the Blu-ray of Mr. Robot, while Wally didn't even carry the DVD of it (at least, I never noticed it there). And Target carries the Blu-rays of the comic book shows like Gotham, Arrow, and The Flash, while Wally only carries the DVDs.

But I think we're agreed that Best Buy is the best bet. I tend to get the HBO releases at Target, but most everything else TV I get at Best Buy (or order from Amazon).

For shows that have aired on the SyFy channel at Target, then I also saw Lost Girl on Blu for the first couple of Seasons, and dvd too, for maybe one more after it. Haven was carried for awhile too, though I can't honestly recall if that was just dvd's, or bd's too. But nothing past that in my area.

I think that SyFy is one way to look at it, and Universal releases another, but I can't think of any other Universal programs off hand except 12 Monkeys. And as far as I know there's no way to search by Studio.

It sounds like there's not as much difference between our Target's and Wal-Mart's then. I've probably occasionally seen more tv shows at WM then you have. Especially when a title isn't getting a BD release anyway, and DVD is the only choice, then that can be helpful.

And yeah, I think we can safely say Best Buy is the way to go, unless someone really wants to order from Amazon and they pm in a timely manner.

Unless it goes down Sunday, looks like 32.99 is the price, BB and Amazon.

Just picked it up at Best Buy. Yep, it's $32.99, just like Amazon. On the other hand, I had a $5 rewards coupon, so I ended up getting it for $31.55 (I had other discs I was getting).

On the downside, it looks like the only extras are deleted scenes. Not that I don't appreciate seeing deleted scenes, but I was hoping they'd include some of the BTS snippets and convention panel stuff that was available on Syfy's website.

On edit: Even worse, the "deleted scenes" amounts to 3 scenes, totaling about 2 minutes, from the pilot episode. That's it.

Lost Girl is released by Funimation though, I've never seen a Funimation product in stores except for Best Buy. I don't recall ever seeing a TV BD release at Walmart. The Expanse is one of the few shows released by Universal, since it's one of the big ones it might show up other places but regular priced.

I just finished watching it last night finally though, it was good but thought it'd be better if it didn't take 8 episodes to really get going lol

yeah, it looks like they're jumping right into book 2 at some point during the season. Hopefully they're just doing like they did with Avasarala in season 1 and showing what she was doing during the events of the book, even though she wasn't actually in it.

I really hope they don't mush up the timeline and events too much, or rush the second half of book 1.

What do you mean Avasarala wasn't actually in the second book. Of course she was. Possible spoilers for anyone who hasn't read Book 2 (Caliban's War)...

[Show spoiler]After the events with the protomolecule monster on Ganymede, Bobbie -- being the only Martian survivor -- is sent to Earth to be part of the discussions about what happened. She meets Avasarala, effectively going to work for her, and travels with her on Mao's ship to the Outer Planets, where Earth and Mars are starting to come to blows.
.

Season 2 will have 13 episodes rather than 10, so I'm assuming they'll use the first or first two to wrap up Leviathan Wakes. I just hope that they finish Caliban's War this season, rather than let it extend over into (a hypothetical) Season 3.

I'm a bit bummed that S2 won't be on until January, though. When Book 6 was delayed until November, I thought it might be because they wanted to do a cross-promotion between the book and S2, and that S2 would start in November as well.

no, I mean Avasarala wasn't in the 1st book, but the show used her extensively, essentially "making up" what she would have been doing during that time. I hope that they give Bobbie the same treatment. I think it would be less than ideal for them to stretch season 2 into the 2nd book outright. But they can bring "forward" events referenced in book 2 that happened chronologically during book 1.

Good news, people outside the US can finally watch this show as it's appeared on Netflix. Including UK, France, Denmark, Spain and a good bunch of others.

Looks like I'm out of touch. Last I saw, it was scheduled for 11/1, and I was wondering why it wasn't in the B&N store I stopped by yesterday.

It's about bloody time, I gave up waiting and imported the Blu-ray just after it was released.

Book 6 was good, and the trailers for season 2 look pretty good too. I'm glad the show seems to be doing well, hope it finds even more success next year
