Well, I guess I'll be the one to say that it's not a kids movie then...Because it's not just a kids movie. It's a family movie. There's a big difference between the two. I view kids movies as ones aimed squarely at kids that parents generally don't, or won't, enjoy. But a family movie is one made for everyone in mind. Things like The Goonies, How to Train Your Dragon, and this are family movies. When people write films like this off as just a kids movie, it creates an idea that adults can't enjoy the film, and that can't be farther from the truth. Family movies and kids movies aren't the same thing, and this is definitely the former. I wouldn certainly say to give this film a chance before writing it off.

Intersteller was partially filmed with IMAX cameras and Mockingjay wasn't . I don't know what IMAX theaters are available to you in your area, but if you are going to a "LIEMAX" theater, you're getting jipped (The theater I go to is the Esquire IMAX theater in Sacramento, CA). "LIEMAX" is when they convert basic multiplexes into an IMAX theater, except with a way smaller screen. They charge you the same as the 70mm IMAX theaters, except you get a much tamer experience. Mockingjay will never fill that screen because it was shot with standard 35mm cameras. Now, I do need to say that the last film, Catching Fire, was partially filmed with 35mm and IMAX cameras - hence the reason it played. The one thing I don't care about is when IMAX converts these 35mm films to be displayed on their system. This does not work for me as it does not fill the entire screen to it's maximum capabilities. All they do is upgrade the picture and the sound. In this case, I'd rather go to a Cinemark XD screen or something equivalent to that and see the same thing for a couple dollars less. When a movie like Intersteller comes around and features over 90 minutes of footage shot with 70mm IMAX film/cameras, you can bet your ass I will be all up in that. The goal here is to find a proper IMAX theater that still shows 70mm/15 perforations. Sorry for my rant, but I felt that I need to chime in. |

I hear ya! My 70mm showing erupted in applause as well when the credits started to roll. I was also in a state of complete awe during the whole movie. Watching that 70mm footage just makes going to IMAX movies so bad ass. It's hard to explain to people what seeing a movie there is like. It's something that should be on every film lovers bucket list.

I am aware of everything that you posted. By the way, Mockingjay was not shot with 35mm film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1951265/...ef_=tt_dt_spec
In my area, Cinemark actually charges more for XD than they do for IMAX. Cinemark operates an IMAX that can play 15/70 here in DFW. Last edited by jscoggins; 11-13-2014 at 12:35 PM. |
