There are very few movies that I own and have not watched. Usually the ones I have not watched belong in a movie series or box sets, like the Fast and Furious (watching 3 I have not soon) other than that I do not buy movies I have not watched, most of my movies I enjoy watching too.

There seems to be blind buyers around but this guy must be the blind buying champ.

Personally I'd have a hard time sleeping at night with collecting things I do not use or at least know I will enjoy again, his money though let him waste it.

Even if this guy didn't intend to watch any of his movies, how many times would you end up watching your 2000-3000? Once each? Good intentions aside (not meaning to be insulting here) in reality how much difference is there between you and him? Out of probably 1,000 BDs and DVDs, I know for sure I have a ton that I've never watched, or I may ever end up only watching once.

That's pretty much my WWE collection right now. The wife hates me for it.

So by your logic, instead of spending the money I EARN on stuff I WANT, I should give it to a charity that will only use a small fraction of it for their cause?
If he took all of them to his local used store he would get $20 in cash or $35 in store credit
Great points.

As long as the guy doesn't live in a studio apartment with unpaid child support, have at it.

Only if they are signed in blood.

I really don't collect anything. I own more shirts than movies. I have like 20 shirts.

"Never let anyone tell you that you have a problem..."

...unless you actually do have a problem. Although statistically improbable, it is still possible that one could become addicted to collecting Blu-rays to the point that it is becoming unhealthy.

In 2014 i watched 1102 movies over the course of the year. I had made a concerted effort to watch as many as i possibly could in one 12 month period, i will never again fit that many in, it was exhausting. I must add that it was alongside working a full time job etc.

My collection is just over 900 blus at the moment and i can't get through all of that in an average year.

I guess the difference is I buy movies I have watched, or I intend to watch, and he buys movies just for the sake of buying movies. I might only end up watching a movie once, but I don't have movies sitting on my shelf that I never intend to watch at all.

It would be awesome to see the collections of various filmmakers. I suspect that guys like Scorsese and Tarantino probably have collections in the 8,000-10,000 range. In Guillermo Del Toro's man cave video on the "Cronos" disc, he states that he has 7,000 DVDs and hundreds of movies in VHS, LD and Betamax formats. I suspect he now has several thousand films on blu ray. The difference is those guys have watched a great deal of those films, as opposed to collecting them simply to have a massive collection.

I have "wasted" so much money on movies and TV shows I never watch and never want to see: Monster High, Barbie Princesses, Dora the Explorer, etc. Yeah, we probably all buy movies for our kids and our spouses. We might even stock up some movies for these weird people called guests that might want to come over and watch a film.

My video collection is right around 2300-2400 titles. I don't have time to watch them all, but I have watched a large amount of them. Some, I plan on watching with my kids when they are old enough to understand the content and use it as a teaching moment (e.g. Schindler's List).

I took a lot of heat during the construction of my theater from some people online when they heard how much the components cost and thought I should just give a bunch of money to charity. The fact is that I do give tons of money to underprivileged children in third world countries. Those kids are so appreciative that they often make me a cool shirt to wear or something else I display with pride in my house. Unfortunately, because I am so busy, it is hard for me to seek out these kids so I rely on a vast network that can seek them out and distribute the money to them and then get their gifts back to me as well, great organizations like Target, WalMart, Nordstroms, etc.

I have been in many of Theo's theaters. Some are a bit too busy for my tastes, but all of them are true masterpieces visually. I do prefer my theater over his although mine does not photograph as well as his do. I can tell you that he and I both love films - the passion is obvious and the theaters I have built for others were a joy to do because I could pour my soul into the project knowing the person who was going to use it shared my passion for movies.

There are always people who can look at others with jealousy and derision. I remember seeing Mariah Carey's closet. OMFG, talk about crazy. More shoes than you could imagine and her closet was bigger than my master bedroom. She said when she was little, she couldn't afford new shoes because she grew up in poverty. All I can say is good for her. I am happy for her success. I finally earned enough money to build the theater of my dreams. I enjoy it as much as time permits. And for those who take offense at my choice of ways to spend my money, I feel bad for people like that who cannot know happiness because they let other people's freedoms bring them sorrow. I am glad I am not them because I don't want to be bitter, and because they don't won't ever have a nice home theater.
