News will be coming soon enough but no one should have expected any substantial updates from fox , Sony or Ryan until the 4K conversion was done and ready for streaming/pressing.

Sorry to disappoint

With no updates until that tweet posted I somehow suspected it would not make the March release, but I don't mind waiting longer. If I can wait years and years for The Abyss on Blu-ray I can wait it out for The Shield.

Sees tweet 5 hours old, want to share the news, sees forum thread updated 3 hours ago, damit! :P

On another note, seems like a decent upgrade from the dvd Critics might have to bite the dust on this one.

Do you ever get tired of endlessly repeating the same complaint?

And there has still been nothing mentioned beyond Ryan stating that this conversion would "allow" for Blu-Rays. Unless I missed something, nothing else has been said about a Blu-Ray release. I'll believe it when I see it, but right now I'm more inclined to believe this work is being done primarily for 4K streaming then it is for a Blu-Ray release.

Once conversions are done Sony sales department will put a street date on streaming/blu-ray.

Nope, because it's a 100% valid point — altering art to fit a TV screen, kind of like what they did with pan and scan — but thanks anyway though. You can mute me, you know, so you don't have to actually care about important things like proper aspect ratio, proper color timing, subtitles, etc.

Cute, but the originator's approved ratio is 1.33, which is how the shots were composed and broadcast.

That's not entirely true. I'm sure this has been quoted to death, but in case not, from Shawn Ryan in an interview with MovieWeb:

Quote:
"We always filmed in widescreen, but when they aired, we would air them 4x3. The DVDs were initially that way as well, but we had always filmed in widescreen. At the time, I just didn't think most of America had the TV's to justify airing it like that, but now, with the increase in big screen TV's and the improvement in DVD players, you can see The Shield in a different way than you first saw it."

Having watched both versions on DVD, other than a couple of moments in the first few episodes (most notably a cameraman that runs up to a cast member in frame in the pilot), there's nothing that looks out of place.

which means @Bates_Motel, you can crop it to 4:3 when viewing it on your favourite medium. Problem solved.
