Anyone feel that Kong: Skull Island is going to reinvent Kong himself from scratch with him being supersized like the version of Kong from King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)?

They'd have to. I bet he's going to be huge in Skull Island

Basically what Toho have always been doing with Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, etc. in other words.

2020 though? Yikes. I mean, it makes sense considering Godzilla 2 isn't coming until '18, but still. That's half a decade, a long time to wait.
Exactly. I think it's silly for anyone to complain about this when Godzilla has already fought every monster and its grandmothra in what's essentially a universe of monster movies.

Yeah but we all know the only reason they're doing this is because of the MCU's success.

No arguments from me, but if that other Universal Monster Universe reboot with the classic monsters, like Dracula, the Mummy, etc, is any good, then it'll be worth all the other shitty crossover universes we got in the process. That's not even to say that this one has no potential, because it does. The last Godzilla didn't blow me away, but it got more right than wrong, so there's potential here. Of course, you disagree with that last part, so that's another debate. I'm not a fan of the older Godzilla movie like you are.

I guess I should ask myself what I'm even doing in this thread because if this "universe" is the same quality as last year's Godzilla, I won't even bother exploring it.

Oh right: I'm drawn to all things Godzilla.

How can a fan as big as you are not be drawn to it? Now that technology has caught up to the big G, it's just up to the stories. But... again, I enjoyed the last Godzilla, so agree to disagree there. Can I guess that you also dislike PJ's King Kong?

Of course, and I'm very much looking forward to Skull Island and Godzilla 2. I have to see how those are before I can know whether to get really excited about the vs. movie anyway.

As for bringing Pacific Rim into this universe, I'm not a fan of that idea. It's also pretty clear in PR that giant monsters never existed in that universe before the aliens started sending in kaiju through the portal.

In an earlier draft of the screenplay Hiddleston's character goes to the island to rescue his brother who was stranded there trying to retrieve a mythical serum called Titan, which is believed to be the cure for all illnesses and diseases. If this serum is still in play, then it may be what made Kong and the other animals on Skull Island grow so big (the name is a pretty obvious clue), and perhaps this will be used as an excuse to have him be more traditionally Kong-sized in his debut and then, after consuming some more, increase in size for his eventual encounter with Godzilla?

Well I said I am drawn to it to an extent and maybe I'll give G14 another shot sometime.

I saw PJ's King Kong theatrically and it was really, really long. My friend fell asleep during both movies. I don't remember much about that one though so I can't really comment on it.

I did not know there was a script leak. Would explain why Monarch is involved, giant sized fauna.

Besides the well-known Japanese giant monsters, what other famous huge beasts/monsters could join?

The stone Golem? The 50 Foot Woman? Tarantula? The Blob? Cyclops?

Outside of the Japanese monsters and Kong, I'm not sure there are any Western giant monsters iconic enough for them to bother with. Though I wouldn't mind the Rhedosaurus being brought in, he's too gangsta to not bring back for another movie.

Isnt K1 Robot Asian? It's amazing how Japan has pretty much owned it regarding giant monsters.

I would also like to see Minilla and Mighty Joe Young team up, maybe stop their parents from fighting.

It's from the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who, so British. Besides, the post I quoted said besides the Japanese giant monsters.

I'm all in. Been a Kong and Godzilla fan my entire life. Fight each other, team up, don't care. As long as they're both on screen at once, that'll get my ass in the seat.

Kong is going to be reduced in screen time to make room for more Batman.
