Nope, there's plenty of chav shite for 'blokes', that ends up the same way. It's just that nobody cares.

The problem is more that the female audience is so unpredictable despite making up the majority of moviegoers (around 52% vs 48% male). Whereas you can usually predict with some degree of accuracy what males will see and buy, with the female audience it's often either blockbuster or total bomb. Even as the biggest moneyloser in history, you know a lot of guys will still buy a BD of John Carter, but even a local success like Remember Me ($5,494,638 gross in the UK) can sell so badly on BD compared to DVD they end up dumping copies in Poundland. |

Simply, distributors aren't dumping 20th Centery Women because it's got women in the title, it's just a case that it's minor film that's seemingly targeted at women (I don't believe that it is, but obviously blokes aren't going to pick it up off the shelf). |

Which is funny because it's actually really a film about men.

mike mills almost made me cry I don't even have anything against VOD it's just easier to watch a film when it's sitting on my shelf than spending a couple of quid to rent it digitally for a night or two when there's a billion other films to stream at the same time I just pray Certain Women will have a featurette or two on the DVD to justify itself even slightly |

DVD only for such a visual film is a travesty. I have ordered the 4K set from Wow (just under £15)... I have no 4K set but my player is a 4K device and can downscale for my telly (or I can just play the 2K disk)

When there is money to be made, companies will cater to whoever throws money at them. You could also say that shops selling shoes are sexist and biased against men, because they cater to women. They don't cater to women because of sexism. They cater to women, because women typically buy way more shoes than men do. Men typically buy some, when the old ones are worn out. So it makes financial sense to do what those shops do. Sexism makes no sense in capitalism. When there is a shop, that doesn't want to have type X customers (which I think is fair game anyway), another shop will serve that group and make more money (= be more financially successful). But of course when something is niche and there is almost no money to make, then it's smarter to simply not make that product. Tons of people are still okay with DVDs / Netflix / etc. For the movie business it's also all about money. When a movie fails, you typically get bare bone releases if even those. You typically will not get a 200 pounds collector's edition. Typically women are also not movie-nerds like people on here with 1080p, 4K and 7.1 surround sound and so on. They may watch movies with you and may like your home cinema, but would they spend thousand of bucks themselves on a home cinema? Some sure, but those few are nothing against the amount of men being crazy about this type of (technical) hobby. I'm still waiting for blu-ray release of for example "Last Life in the Universe". And I will probably never get one, because it's a niche Asian art-movie (cinematography by Christopher Doyle). Publishers not releasing that one on blu-ray is not because they hate art movies or Asians, but there is almost no money to be made because of its niche audience. At least that one got some western release though. "Lu Cha", cinematography also by Christopher Doyle was afaik not even released on DVD in the west. I'm actually happy that this one was at least released on DVD in an acceptable form (Hong Kong release). |
