Please do. The sound is dynamic and powerful for that alone its a must watch in IMAX. However, this doesnt have select IMAX sequences so you will still see minimal black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Critic Consensus: Smart, solidly crafted, and palpably tense, 10 Cloverfield Lane makes the most of its confined setting and outstanding cast -- and suggests a new frontier for franchise filmmaking.

Our projector messed up and they gave us passes for another showing. I had to sit through that god awful ghostbusters trailer twice while they were trying to fix it.

There is legit no reason to see this in IMAX. I just got home from this and was not impressed. It was okay, I guess. I kinda hated the score and sound editing. You can totally tell how this was not written as part of the Cloverfield franchise, and then last minute scooped up by JJ to try and sell something that wasn't going to make any money without the name.

I was just about to come in here and say the exact same thing.

I loved the movie. It's solid. But I do not believe for a single second this was originally intended as a follow-up to the 2008 film.

It's almost as if JJ has the intention to make an anthology franchise that merely bears the Cloverfield name without connecting them at all to tell stories about disasters involving creatures.

I'll second that. Not once in this film did any of this make me wish I had paid the extra money for an IMAX showing.

On the films itself I absolutely loved it. Goodman is mind-blowingly excellent in his role. The other two are decent but make no mistake, Goodman absolutely owns every scene. I can totally see how they threw that ending in out of nowhere and slapped the Cloverfield bit in front of it. Didn't bother me too much though. I thought the ending was great and if this does indeed lead to another film, whether directly tied into the other two or as a stand alone in an anthology universe, then sign me up. Solid 4/5.

Default 10 Cloverfield Lane - March 11, 2016

I like that this was completely different than the original film, and that Abrams and co. decided to make it into the bigger universe after the fact. For me, it worked brilliantly. It fits into the bigger mythology while being a totally separate anthology type film. It's fascinating, really, and I would love to see more franchises try this.

The performances were excellent across the board. Good an is terrifying, and playing so against type, and I loved it. Hopefully Mary Winstead gets more love from audiences after this as well, because she knocks the role out of the park. The mood and the atmosphere are so thick and tense, it kept me on the edge the whole time. It was like Hitchcock and Serling had a messed up baby, and I loved it. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.

As for IMAX, you don't have to see it in it, but the sound mix was great, and the big screen added to the claustrophobia of it all for me.

4.5/5

Does this film benefit from Atmos? There is the one scene shown in the trailer which could benefit from overhead speakers, but is there significant / critical object usage or ceiling usage?

Critical ceiling usage might be one of the strangest things asked of a film I've seen on the forum yet.

Stupid choice of word, but, yow know what I mean.

Sounds placed in the ceiling (or in objects) that change the feel of the scene, for e.g. the score pulled off screen or the sound of lasers or ships encoded as objects and moving through the room in "The Force Awakens" which sound flat in an 8 channel room.

Yes. Theres is this great ceiling moment where the sound travels across the room back and forth and from side to side which sounded incredible. This was for IMAX which I'm sure included Atmos.

I haven't really seen anyone talk about the
[Show spoiler]Megan (Howard's daughter) part of the story and the missing girl. So did Howard kidnap that girl and kill her in his bunker before the attack happened? Why was he passing her off as his daughter? Feels like they didn't really flesh that out, unless I'm missing something.
