I skipped the Season's Grievings edition, but this will be my third time overall buying the film, counting the Critical Mass DVD.

Was completely and pleasantly surprised that Shout got this. I own the Critical Mass DVD and have struggled with deciding to buy a Blu-ray of it cause they all have their issues. I watched it years ago and quite liked it, then I popped it in again one or two Decembers ago and the film still holds up really well. There is a touch of humor, which is nice, but I really dig the cold, dark, and creepy atmosphere of this one. It really is one of the very best slashers ever made. I love Christmas-set horror movies too and this is something I'll try to watch every other year now.

I'm already giddy with all the new transfers Shout have done for big horror titles this year, but this particular announcement makes me just as, possibly more, excited. It seems a bit premature to announce it without a good/great source print locked down, I really hope they strike gold here. I can't help it but my expectations are high, I really thought we were screwed for this one not looking good on BD, but Shout has a chance to rescue it now. The transfer is what matters most here, but I am glad to hear that all the extras from previous editions will be included so I can toss that DVD, and my word it'll be nice to finally have the original poster artwork on the cover.

I'm excited for this release, but I will not buy it without the correct, mono soundtrack. So I hope Scream Factory is aware of this omission on prior releases and plans to correct it.

Without having a good source locked down I agree that announcing a title as important as Black Christmas is premature and, frankly, risky. If DOG SOLDIERS and HELLHOLE has taught them anything, it's that they shouldn't announce something until they have secured and inspected the source materials. The same principles as withholding an announcement until the ink on the contract has dried applies here. Fingers crossed that they'll be able to locate something better than what's been used before - however long it takes.

I'd rather they take their time and not be cornered into meeting a Nov or Dec deadline with an unspectacular print. I would wait a year or more if that's what it takes to look its best.

You should mention it on their Facebook page or send them an e-mail. I did, but the more who pipe in, the more likely they'll make it a priority.

I would assume they'll put effort in to finding a new source. If there's not even a rough release date announced, I don't think they have any reason to be in a hurry. They probably have more connections than most any other label that's gotten it so far, so I'm optimistic.

I keep reluctantly passing on the deluxe editions (though I am super tempted by the Child's Play one). Don't need the posters, don't want to go through the effort of selling them on eBay, and I don't need extra slipcovers lying around. But...y'know what....for this one.........maybe.

I have no doubt they'll work hard to find the negative or something closely removed from it (Shout have been apprehensive about handling negatives in the past but this one needs it!). With the information that another label searched for over a year with no luck, I am a little concerned, that's all. Seems overconfident, but I of course would love to have it in time for Christmas this year, since I've had to keep passing on the current Blu-ray(s) every December. Just don't want a Dog Soldiers situation. You're right, though, they are a giant genre label and not as lazy as Anchor Bay. They probably have more resources...fingers crossed.

I actually got a response back from Scream! Factory customer service very quickly that they had forwarded my e-mail onto the disc producer; so here's hoping the correct, mono soundtrack find it's way onto this release. If nothing else, I've done my part.

Wee, glad I haven't bought any of the existing copies. Now if they'd put the Hitcher on Blu-ray, I'd be all set.

Right with you on that! The Hitcher would be a perfect release from Scream! Factory. And I'm talking of course about the original Hitcher from '86 and not the crappy remake.

It's Warner, it won't happen, no matter how many hundreds of people keep asking in these threads. Though you did remind me I need to get that UK dvd cause it might end up being the best non-digital version that ever comes out.

Do it! Better PQ than the US with some great extras.

I really hope Shout knocks this release out of the park and everything is perfect. Black Christmas is one of my all time favorite horror films.

I can't wait to hear more details of this. I do think Halloween is probably the scarier film(and I LOVE Halloween), but Black Christmas always felt more mature, more serious, with better writing and characters. It's creepier. It's my all time favorite.
