Surprisingly, if the info is correct--and that's a big "if", because previous versions of Cinema Squid's BDInfo were not flawless, particularly in regards to audio bit-depth--the disc is just over 41 GB.

Does anyone know if discs less than a BD-50 in size could use existing 50 GB disc manufacturing methods, or do the UHD BD specs mean that every two-layer disc must be a 66 GB platter?
BD-scan is correct, found a scan report as well.

it's a BD-66. Think BD-66 and BD-100 are the standard required disc types to be used, despite how many unused space is left and favors a BD-50.

BD50 is very much a part of the UHD spec but because it's using a 'legacy' disc type and not the denser data storage of the 33GB layered discs (66GB/100GB) its bitrates are lower. No-one wants to limit themselves however so everything's been on a 66/100 thus far IIRC, it's a bit like SDR 2020: also part of the spec but no-one wants to use it. Table below from the August 2015 White Paper.

to put it briefly the german uhd of neon demon has no hdr and is in bt.709
and uhd discs got the same folder structure, just like a normal blu-ray.
no problem to extract the bdinfo of the disc and make proper frame shots.
also, it's dvdfab that does the scan.
https://www.dvdfab.cn/bdinfo.htm

why do you guys ever speculate? just visit their chat and ask them?!
they are super friendly and explain things easily.
don't be so shy

Glad that this film is getting some attention. Thoroughly enjoyed this picture and have a great love for the score by Cliff Martinez. I listen to a track at least once a day, it's that good.

I've wanted to get a look at the 4K disc for a while, see how much of a different sheer resolution alone makes on something actually finished in 4K like this. The regular Blu looks quite soft in comparison whereas the 4K has more outright detail but also more texture, more "grain". I'm not paying silly money for it but when the price is right I'll pick it up.

The Neon Demon is pretty much OLED Showcase: The Movie. All those dark, saturated, flashing, high-contrast images and abstract shots with sets seemingly floating in a perfect black void. It was the first movie I watched on my new set, truly a revelation coming from a ho-hum LCD with local-dimming issues that would have absolutely choked on this movie.

It obviously owes a lot to Mulholland Drive and would have liked it even more if they had followed it even closer. They should have ripped out the entire pointless teenage love story, trimmed some of the tired and predictable modeling world/jealousy setup and used that time to go even further with the out-there stuff and have more of the intense music-video sequences.

Tempted to get the UHD but I'll hold off for now, quite the candidate for an HDR regrade. And the German ratings are always such a turn-off.

I love this movie but I only really wanna double dip if there’s HDR involved. Though if the UHD could solve the banding problems, I’d pick it up for sure. The Broadgreen disc looks awesome except for that one scene where the sky is torn up by really bad artifacts.

If those BDInfo scan numbers are accurate, then the disc is about 60 GB, while the feature film is about 41 GB. What else is on the disc taking up some 19 GB? Are there video extras on the UHD Disc, or 4K trailers?

Those sites don't specify if the extras are on the UHD disc, though. It seems that the extras are only on the accompanying 1080p Blu-ray.

vincentric did a review a couple of pages back, he says that the banding is greatly helped by the UHD.

There are no extras on the UHD disc. Maybe the 19GB are just filler data to get into the High TR area of the disc? It's the same with the German Texas Chainsaw Massacre UHD disc. Disc size is over 50GB but the sum of all files is under 50GB.

So... d514 says there's no extras on the UHD, and rewak says there ARE extras on the UHD in 1080p, with a list of them. Who is correct?

Maybe I have confused it with another disc. I can check this later...

That's cool to know. Still planning to import this (and Texas Chainsaw Massacre) at some point.

Dawn of the Dead will be my first experiment with non-US 4K UHD masters.
