Great season finale that felt like a series finale to a great season. I hope it comes back for a 3rd and hoping for Emmy love for Henry and Stanfield especially. Glad Al made the right decision.

Just finished Season 1. I loved the first 6 episodes, but thought the final 4 shows were just so so. Didn't hold my interest as much.

Looking forward to Season 2 and 3.

Just binged watched both seasons over the past week. One of the most original, unique, best tv series that I've seen in recent memory. Especially the last few episodes of season 2 were just incredible. Donald Glover is a genius and Lakeith Stanfield and Brian Tyree Henry both deserve Emmys for their performances.

‘Atlanta’ Renewed for Season 4 at FX

“Atlanta” has been renewed for a fourth season at FX before production has begun on the previously announced Season 3. FX made the announcement Tuesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Production on Seasons 3 and 4 is slated to begin in the spring. Both seasons will consist of eight episodes.

Donald Glover created the series and stars along with Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, and Lakeith Stanfield. The series is executive produced by Glover and his brother, Stephen, along with Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle, and Hiro Murai. FX Productions produces.

“What more can be said about ‘Atlanta’ than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television,” said Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment. “This group of collaborators and cast have created one of the most original, innovative stories of this generation and we are proud to be their partners.”

Given the production start date, Season 3 will likely bow in late 2019 or early 2020, in keeping with the gap between the first two seasons. The first season debuted in September 2016 while the second season did not debut until March 2018.

Glover has found himself increasingly in demand on various projects in the past few years, including his role in the recent “Lion King” remake. He also has his music career under the alias Childish Gambino. Beetz, Henry, and Stanfield have also been increasingly active with movie roles since the show launched.

Season 1 of “Atlanta” was nominated for six Emmy Awards, winning two: outstanding lead actor in a comedy series and outstanding directing for a comedy series, with both awards going to Glover. The series has won five Emmys out of 22 nominations over two seasons thus far.

Basically they are shooting Seasons 3 and 4 back to back. The actors have gotten a lot work outside of the series so I can imagine how hard it is to schedule around that.

I love this show and can’t wait for season 3. The cast is very lucky as it does seem they are able to work a lot outside of the show. Most shows have such a strict schedule that they can never branch out til it’s off the air.

And with that, I say the more Zazie Beetz in the world the better.

‘Atlanta’ to Return to FX in 2021

It’s officially going to be a year before FX delivers more episodes of Donald Glover’s “Atlanta.”

During the cabler’s Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Thursday, John Landgraf, chairman, FX Networks and FX Prods., announced that the next two installments of the Emmy-winning comedy series would not be ready until 2021.

Calling Seasons 3 and 4 “Part 1 and 2” of a new chapter in the series’ life, Landgraf said that the first 10 episodes should return in January 2021, with the next batch, which as of now will consist of eight episodes, following in the fall of that year.

These 18 episodes will be shot in sequence, with some of filming taking place in the titular city, but much of it also “shooting outside the U.S.,” he noted.

Season 2 of “Atlanta” aired on FX between March and May 2018. Part of the reason for the long wait between seasons is simply how busy Glover has become. From his film work in “The Lion King” to his Amazon Prime Video special “Guava Island” and his music career as Childish Gambino, he continues to be in high-demand. That demand includes FX, though: While there was no official Season 5 renewal announced, Landgraf expressed interest in continuing the series.

“As long as Donald wants to make more ‘Atlanta,’ I’m down for that. But it’s his choice,” he said.
