With other UHD players weighing to 8 lbs or more(X800, 203,) what is our concern level for Lg UP970's 3.5 pounds. Is LG using its bucks mainly for PQ, DV, Audio, Upscaling 1080p?
I have LG E6, Sony 7200, Klipsch Atmos, Onkyo AV, Vudu DV( without Atmos output, so so SAD). Obviously only the LG UP970 features will/can satisfy me. 3 5 pounds seems not reasonable. My Sony 7200 3D, 4K upscale player weighs even much more. BTW, a very receint Lg 970 Youtube video at Germany trade show displays like a metal UP970 casing and a Vendor display card shows also Amazon Video App. Cource we know Netflix, Youtube is there. BTW. I am on Robert's UP970 pre-order list.

I myself don't care much for how it looks or how much it weighs; I'm only interested how and what it does.
And seeing as this is a more affordable player (the OPPO 203 costs €850 here in the Netherlands....) I really hope this player does what it's supposed to do.

I'll be waiting for the reviews on this one, but most likely this will be my first 4K player I purchase. I read this player will receive a update for Dolby Vision which my LG TV supports.

Weight doesn't matter to me, a lot of the X800 weight is an overdone chassis that prob doesnt matter...

Atmos support with audio out only HDMI and dolby vision with both blurry and streaming will make this the ultimate candidate for me.

Let's not forget the little wonder called the Philips BDP7501. Even though it's not Dolby Vision capable, this little 3-pounder sports some of the best 4K BD image detail that I read consistently about. Sure it's not an Oppo, but for it's price it's no slouch.

TechLone.COM just put out a March 14, 2017 "Important" review on the BDP7501. Can hardly wait for the first LG UP 970 published review. Its so important for all of us to find the player that fits our individual needs.

Just read the above-mentioned review on the "ho-hum" Philips.

I, too, am looking forward to a first review of the LG, and I'm still waiting patiently for my LG.

The menu interface shown in the manual's screenshots looks archaic. Hopefully it functions better than it looks.

LOL, have you seen the Sony X800?

Im going to be curious what it actually outputs, since there is no Deep Color on or off, no 444 or 422, just ycbcr or rgb. Hopefully it is BT 2020 10 bit 2160p.

Also no HDR off SDR 709.

Robert had mentioned an SDR downconversion that includes 2020, so maybe some HDR and colorspace options will be among any updates. Maybe with the Dolby Vision firmware update.

Hometheaterreview.com

"The LG UP970 also features additional picture quality technologies that further enhance the viewing experience for consumers. The LG UP970 includes support for 10-bit color and Rec. ITU-R BT. 2020 color gamut, as well as playback of high-efficiency video coding (HEVC). It's also compatible with a variety of leading sound formats, including Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio, for a truly cinematic audio and video experience."

I have as seen on my LG E6___ as my collection in DV:

The Slience of the Lambs
Pacific Rim
Oblivion
Allied
Mad Max
Bourne Legacy
Warcraft
Arrival
Lucy.

Vudu streaming at Ethernet 23 mbps. 4K. DV on my LG OLED E6 55 inch. Incredible, Stunning PQ. Color Gamut, Graded Contrast, Sharpnes, Detail. Jaw Dropping. Live Die Repeat is also Super Super Reference material, refer to youtube video and see that White Dude display movie segments on his high end TV. How good the PQ... Think Lucy, Mad Max, Pacific Rim, Warcraft in DV. Least that Good.

LG knows how to do Superb DV, 4K.

If the UP970 Vudu App is as good as the E6 OLED VUDU App...
Then I believe no UHD Blu Ray Disc can compare. This was also "stated" in a receint published review. Streaming DV Mad Max kicks UHD Blu Ray disc Mad Max. In PQ.

And. If DV App Streaming at 23 mbps is Incredible... Imagine the LG UP970 playing the forth-coming new DV disc at Full Bandwidth.

From Reviewed.Com...

"Fellow TV reviewer Michael Desjardin and I both agreed that—probably because the Dolby Vision version was down-sampling from a superior master using 12-bit and a theoretical Rec.2020 color space—it had better gradated coloration and a slightly sharper, more balanced look than the HDR10 disc. This is really saying something, too, considering the Dolby Vision version was streaming from Vudu, and the HDR10 version was playing from a Blu-ray disc."

"However, in the real world, the visible differences are going to come down to the TVs you're comparing.
To minimize those difference, we set up the LG OLED55B6P, one of LG's newest 2016 4K OLED TVs that supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. This made it fairly easy to watch content that's been mastered in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. In this case, it was Mad Max: Fury Road on 4K Blu-ray (for HDR10) and streaming in Dolby Vision from VUDU. Both modes were left in their defaults—Dolby Vision Bright and HDR Bright".

Ok.
But why do my other LG E6 DV Steaming movies looks so awesome. I think LG just knows how to do DV. Be it TV or likely even their new UP970 Player(Which BTW, I've read will have Technicolor certification).

"High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), also known as H.265 and MPEG-H Part 2, is a video compression standard, one of several potential successors to the widely used AVC (H.264 or MPEG-4 Part 10). In comparison to AVC, HEVC offers about double the data compression ratio at the same level of video quality, or substantially improved video quality at the same bit rate. It supports resolutions up to 8192×4320, including 8K UHD."

Comparison of Mad Max from OPPO 203 versus Mad Max Vudu Dolby Vision Streaming App.

Sorry I don't have the equipment to capture great images from my own LG 55OLEDE6p of the Mad Max scene.

OPPO 203 Mad Max scene viewed on LG E6 OLED...

2016 LG OLED Mad Max scene, DV App streaming...

Actually Live on my own LG E6 OLED PQ of the same scene is even more impressive from its VUDU DV App at Ethernet 23 mbps.

Refer to Oct 21. #346

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/#/topics/2464874?page=35

LG UP970 VUDU DV App versus the 2016 LG OLED VUDU DV App should/must both offer the same reference quality display we just see in the above link at #346. If not everyone will be disappointed. And this will be reflected in decreased sales. Especially if you want to stream Superb DV with Atmos to the AVR from your player. Being that many 4K UHD TV's can't send Atmos or even Dolby Digital 5.1 plus to a sound-bar or AVR.

I see several conflicting release dates for this player. Best Buy is listing 4/10, B&H is listing 3/28. I've seen some others list late March as well.

Any more insight as to when this will finally be available. I just bought my first UHD set and am itching to get a UHD player and this one looks like a good one.
