It doesn't surpass 1080p bluray and I would never use DV on VuDu to show a friend what DV can do. Plus even Fandango streaming blows VuDu out of the water

Dolby Vision on Netflix looks way, WAY better than DV on Vudu.

The discs look way better than Vudu, Netflix, iTunes, GooglePlay, or any other streaming service. Physical media all the way.

Fandango is also very good, I would say right in there with VUDU.
But Dolby Vision VUDU easily beats 1080p Discs for picture quality.

Netflix 4K is decent and also beats the 1080p version. On the other hand I would not say they are as good as Vudu or Fandango. Those two are the bar.

Vudu/Fandango
NetFlix
Amazon (UP and down) Sometimes toward the top, sometimes the worst)

There are numerous comparisons online but here is one for 1080p. VUDU comes in first on this comparison, and I've found they tend to usually be the best. Fandango wasn't mentioned in this comparison. I know there are some other comparisons that show 1080p disc vs 4K streaming as well.
(Granted other things can affect streaming as well, (Media Player, TV app, etc)

I need to try fandango but with how popular Vudu is I seriously doubt its that much better than Vudu

Which client are you using? Vudu performance can vary.

Default Q: LG/OLED or Dolby Vision?

Out of curiosity, has anyone with a Vizio or other than LG/OLED set experienced any of the issues noted above, disc or streaming?

Asking because I've viewed Dolby Vision content via apps: Netflix (Okja) and Vudu (Blade Runner, Pacific Rim, GOTG2) on my P50, and haven't experienced the 'grey bars' issue.

In fact, my experience to date, somewhat limited and highly subjective, supports the claim that Dolby Vision blows HDR10 away for streaming content.

Also note that once John Archer's review of TFOTF in Forbes began making the rounds on the internet, somehow the impression of what appears to be limited to LG and/or OLED displays somehow snowballed into a fundamental issue with Dolby Vision, the internet being the internet.

My guess is LG will make the necessary tweaks to their FW and that will be that.

I disagree. But that is not something you can see at first glance when comparing 1080 disc to DV Vudu

Watch any low lit movie scene on VuDu or Netflix and compare to Fandango and/or bluray disc. THAT is where VuDu and Netflix lose the challenge

I'm an active AVS member in the Vizio threads and missed this – what thread was this posted in?

I'm also active in the Oppo UDP-203 threads and I don't remember seeing that either.

Someone here just loves to cast doubt.

If you search the Oppo 203 thread, every comment about 'Dolby Vision + Grey Letterbox and/or Grey Bars' is related to the Fate of The Furious and/or Power Rangers disc and an LG OLED display.

Like I said, I'm pretty active in the Vizio thread and haven't read of any issues with grey letterboxes, with or without Dolby Vision.

This issue seems localized to LG and one disc, Fate of the Furious. One or two people citing Power Rangers may mean it is not a disc issue, but a settings and/or firmware issue with LG OLED displays.

Doesn't mean I'm right, but unless someone throws some source links up, I have to believe that this thread should be re-titled 'LG OLED Display Settings for Dolby Vision Discs,' or more accurately, 'LG OLED Display Settings for Fate Of The Furious UHD Disc.'

Power Rangers is far from the only disc this has been reported on. People on AVS, as well as those on this very forum, have reported the issue on numerous other discs, including Fate of the Furious, Cabin in the Woods, and several others.

Vizio owners have reported the issue as well.

Not only that, but it's been reported on streaming content, too.

Is it "many" people with 2017 LG also or just 2016?

Some say no problems, some have some problems and others have all the problems. I would blame the hardware, cables, even calibration and other stuff when it seems all get different mileage like this.
