I think the reason why it should not be too hard to understand why some people feel like they are being 'cheated' by the studios is because most people are not privy to any detailed knowledge on these matters, unlike most people who are regulars on this subsection of the forum. They just don't ave the technical know how to properly understand how a 2K upscale can still blow a BD out of the water. So all they see are those large numbers written on the front cover; 4K. And then they feel cheated. Most people probably don't know 2K DIs having been the standard for the past 15 years and how much extra it actually costs to go 4K DI. Perhaps they've even read how movies like Guardians 2 were shot with an 8K camera and so it baffles them when they learn that the movie on disc is a 2K upscale. And these days with 4K being so cheap and accessible with everyone and their grandma having the ability to shoot 4K with their smartphones and a ton of youtubers publishing their videos in 4K and all I don't really find it that hard to understand why many people are surprised Hollywood with their mega budgets and fancy equipment are still delivering in 2K. After all, the reasons why most releases are 2K upscales and the reasons why the UHD release of a 2K upscale is still much better than a standard BD just isn't common knowledge. |

I'd rather consumers be told that a given 4K transfer is underwhelming and is among the likely candidates to be "remastered" someday. There won't be any remastering for Zero Dark Thirty though, will there? |

Hm. You've made up your mind, but there's more to sound quality, or specifically to the quality of a film soundtrack, than LFE that shakes the room. A 50s/60 musical should thrill on a proper home theater surround. |

If that was really the case then all they'd have to do was to include an additional stereo mix to cater to anyone without a surround setup (which honestly, given how most people are probably watching these movies in a stereo setting, they ought to be doing anyway).

Just as when you have to choose your language at the beginning of a Disney disc, maybe they should also ask you to choose between three different choices of audio setup... TV speakers, soundbar or home theatre. That way they'd be able to automatically choose the most appropriate mix and not have to worry confusing soccer moms or whoever it is people have said they're catering to. |

Funny how this is re-releasing in 4K when the real benefit over the standard BD release would be finally releasing the 3D conversion they did a long time ago.
HDR/DV will not do much for a completely digitally rendered movie when the animators have complete control over every single pixel on screen already; and this 4K release coming from an upconverted 2K DI at that. Come on, stop with this marketing BS. |

Have you seen the existing Pixar UHD releases? They're pretty awesome.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. This should be released in both 4K and 3D. Too bad the 3D didn't happen, if like you say, they already have this movie converted to 3D.

How much of a benefit will we really get with the upgrade from Blu to 4K for animation?
