Yeah, it doesn't make sense on its own after a post about failed jokes in the new movie.

The same reason the guy over in the Big Lebowski 4K thread is glad some of the studios only put immersive soundtracks on the 4K discs. Who cares if it screws people over that want a hard drive copy with DTS X on it? The important part is that these people get what they want, no matter the internal logic or how selfish the behavior is. That guy thinks that will force more people to 4K and he wants more 4K titles faster. So it's a good thing to screw people over so he gets what he wants. This guy here doesn't like 3D and so he takes absolute joy in 3D's demise and the faster the better! Screw you and what you want. They themselves are the only people that matter on Earth. Do you think Genghis Khan or Alexander the Great gave two shits about the people they slaughtered? No, they wanted "glory" and so everyone had to bow down or die. You and I are not important. We don't matter. Pawns in the chess game of actual important...or rather SELFISH people. These are the kids that ran the fastest and grabbed the toy car in kindergarten every day at play time. No one else gets to play with it! It's MINE!

Saw it in IMAX 3D and the 3D was okay but nothing mind blowing. I'd still buy the 3D blu-ray if they do one though.

I had an absolute blast with it. With all the production problems, reshoots and studio interference, plus the reviews, I went in expecting the worst but the worst never fully happened.

Feels like the critics are being really harsh on it and I find myself disagreeing with them once again. I've seen far, far worse movies than this. There is some choppy editing thanks to all the reshoots but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

The cast are great, they bounce off each other very well and are very funny, especially Thomas Jane, Keegan Michael Key and Sterling K Brown. The Predators were both awesome too, with some interesting new Predator lore and they both kicked ass, the big bastard was way better than I thought it would be too, very brutal.

The pacing is full speed ahead and works in the movies favour most of the time, it could have done with some scenes slowing down to expand on a few things but it doesn't dwell on things for long, so anything that doesn't work is soon over and it's on to the next scene.

It's no masterpiece, far from it and there are definitely some things that don't work, the very end sequence is so crazy and feels like a tacked on studio decision, which some fans will hate.
If you can except this is a very different Predator movie to the others and can deal with it being more over the top, then you might enjoy it.

Perfect popcorn movie, if you want to switch your brain off for a few hours, have a few beers and a laugh.

I'd give it a 7/10.

It's not entirely clear if you're being sarcastic, but if so, I don't understand your use of the word "delusion" since I don't recall anyone saying that. If you would rather remain cryptic, so be it.

(Sigh) "You call this a delusion," is a line by Arnold Schwarzenegger from Total Recall (after Sharon Stone exclaims he might be delusional and Arnold shows the blood on his hands and states the line and it's a bit amusing because of his accent/delivery).... Somehow, I thought people that watch movies would recognize a famous line from another famous Arnold movie. But since I have to explain it all, let's go full in.

(Who?) YOU made a comment about failed jokes in the new Predator movie. I commented that Predator (i.e. the original) was always a comedy (ALL Arnold movies have somewhat out-of-place comedy one-liners in them. Commando. "What happened to Sully?" "I let him go." (he just dropped him off a cliff). Predator was no exception. It's a Sci-Fi thriller with some horror elements, but it's laced with actual comedy all over the place (and no I don't mean that stupid vagina joke; it wasn't funny at all).

Saw this in 2d ,no 3D out this way. The Predator franchise is one of those that is a must see for me one way or the other.

The movie was fairly good. I enjoyed it well enough.

Wow. Movies apparently get THREE WHOLE DAYS now to make their money back or they're called "flops".

Since you "know" there won't be a 3D release (I'd say the odds are pretty good for Europe in general as they get all kinds of 3D releases we don't get here), maybe you could pass on the winning lottery numbers for the next drawing?

Fox also put out the Maze Runner sequels which weren't shown in 3D at all in the US, and other countries didn't get 3D discs. I won't be buying this one in 2D.

No, but Movies make their biggest impact in the opening 3 days. After that, it drops somewhere between 40 and 70% on average. With that debut, it will be lucky to make more then 60 million domestic.

What was the last FOX IP to get a home 3D release anywhere? I guess the Disney acquisition gives it a slim chance of happening but not a hunch I'd hang my hat on.

It stinks that a movie is deemed by the media news as a flop if it didn't make a ton of money on opening weekend. Back when Disney announced their disappointment in The Lone Ranger's opening weekend earnings, I was wondering why they would write it off as a loss after only one weekend.

I learned that as far as movie distributors, Disney themselves for example, will issue a statement for their film if it's a disappointment at the box office after opening weekend, with examples being John Carter, The Lone Ranger, Tron Legacy (they were concerned with the $44 million opening weekend) and a number more, if the movie doesn't meet their financial expectations to match their high budgets during that crucial opening; when their box office cut is the highest. After that, it starts to dwindle as the theaters start to make more from ticket sales as the weeks go by as another post above suggests. "It's very disappointing," said Disney executive vp worldwide distribution Dave Hollis. "Everything was perfect on paper, so today was incredibly frustrating." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...ld-lead-581503

That said, Ghost in a Shell 3D tanked in theaters, but surprisingly still made it to blu ray 3D.

But we'll see what happens as far as blu ray 3D for The Predator. If this was offered in 3D in the US, I would've seen it opening weekend as with most 3D films I'm interested in.

The Predator (2018)
Domestic Total as of Sep. 16, 2018: $24,632,284
Distributor: Fox Release Date: September 14, 2018
Genre: Sci-Fi Action Runtime: 1 hrs. 48 min.
MPAA Rating: R Production Budget: $88 million

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $24,632,284 45.0%
+ Foreign: $30,060,867 55.0%
= Worldwide: $54,693,151

The link above also does a side by side comparison of the box office of other Predator films.

Part of the problem is the reviews. Ghost In The Shell wasn't a terrible movie (wasn't the best it could have been), but it got a lot of boycott flak for not using a Japanese actress for the main part (it didn't really matter in the movie plot and I can see why they'd want a Western STAR for the drawing power for the masses). The point is that some didn't even give it a chance.

Of course, once it comes out on video, things can be very different. Willy Wonka was NOT a hit at the box office, but the amount it's made since on home video over the years is another matter. Not everything is an INSTANT hit.

I don't generally go to see ANY movies at the theater anymore so how it does there has ZERO bearing with me. I buy them on home video and watch them in my own home theater which is a much better experience on the whole.

Sorry I didn't remember that "famous" line. So you consider the original Predator a comedy because of a couple of Bond-esque double-entendres, and therefore fair game for a full-out comedic treatment. I don't know anyone that would have labeled the original Predator a comedy but okay.

Three whole days is usually all that is needed to tell. This is tracking below predators the last film in the series and has over twice the budget. It is also playing in over 1000 more cinemas then the past film, so interest is in decline with more opportunities to see it. It may hold really well but that is unlikely given the reception it seems to have, hence it is very likely going to be a flop.

I hear what you're saying as far as movies slowly building more fans over time versus in 3 days only. Dredd 3D was a good example of a cult following after theaters despite it's low box office. If more people supported it in theaters, it would've gotten a sequel, but that's not going to happen any time soon. I agree, 3 days is not very fair for the film to earn fans, but there's tons of competition so that's how it goes in theaters anyway.

Good point about Ghost in the Shell's detractors. It's an entertaining movie that gets better with each viewing IMO with solid medium to strong 3D and nice pop outs.

I try to support movies in 3D and ones I'm interested in, while in theaters and on blu ray 3D, but I go at times when it's not so crowded so it's a lot more enjoyable. I was looking forward to this one but without 3D in the US theater for The Predator, my priorities shifted.

Movies can be in more than one genre.... Arnold's movies almost always have strong comedic elements. I wouldn't call the movie a "comedy" but it wasn't totally serious either. Is the Fifth Element a comedy? I'd say it's pretty damn tongue in cheek. YMMV.

Just as with Mission: Impossible Fallout, I wouldn't get my hopes up based on a nordic wishful thinking pre-listing...
