But he does kinda fit that original Cameron concept of the Terminator being a guy who just blends in and doesn't stand out in a crowd, like Robert Patrick.

I thought he was rather good, just the right amount of self awareness to pull off the comedic moments and just the right amount of cool detachment to sell the machine angle. Best Terminator baddie since Robert Patrick IMO.

I agree with Geoff. I thought Luna was an asset to the movie. The entire Rev-9 concept and its performance with both Luna and CG impressed me.

Saw it yesterday. Your predictions are pretty close to the mark though rather than 'boring' and 'safe' I'd just call it forgettable. Quality of filmmaking reminded me of Last Blood. Saw it at a Dolby Cinema and it wasn't too visually interesting. Atmos felt lazy too thanks to the constant rumble in the seats during the action scenes. Hamilton is by far the best part of the film but she doesn't get to do much. Davis OTOH delivers a surprisingly poor performance IMO. I think the film might have worked better had they gotten rid of the protector sent from the future angle altogether and just had Connor filling that roll alone.

Yeah, wasn't expecting much from Luna based on the trailers but his performance was probably one of the stronger parts of the film. Found his Terminator design somewhere between underwhelming and downright silly however so overall not an effective villain for me.

Dude, my thoughts after watching this. Everything about this movie screams generic. I actually enjoyed T3 a lot more for what it was, so no, this one isn’t even close to being “the new T3” as they claim it to be. They just should literally stop sending Terminators back in time, because they try but always fail.

I could poke a thousand holes in the story but this is when you know you’re in for some serious mind blowing stupidity
[Show spoiler] He used to be a Terminator, but now he’s old, they call him Carl and he loves his... dog?!

And it makes me so so sad, this one will get a decent UHD release while we’re stuck with an abominable UHD release of T2 and no clear future for T1...

Except we saw what a Terminator that learned could do in a few days in T2, so what it would learn over 20 years is an interesting notion. It carried out its mission, it had no further objectives and they cannot knowlingly self-terminate as we know from T2.

Ok, if we’re talking the theatrical cut, where the whole switching to learning mode scene was omitted, then yes, I agree, it’s plausible, although still pretty unimaginative. But I rather meant it in the sense of the original idea of the Terminator
[Show spoiler] you just can’t turn a stone cold killer into a bloody old-timer swinging in his armchair for fcuk’s sake, you just can’t - and besides, did a dog learn to love a Terminator over time the way he himself learned to love humanity, oh how low did we fall, when you know dogs used to be the only creatures who could spot Terminators easily and help the resistance!

Not in the theatrical cut. This scene was omitted, and later included in the extended cut. So we kinda assume he can learn over time of we go from theatrical cut to whatever Dark Fate is supposed to be.

Looking like a psycho isn't a good idea for infiltration.
Also he flipped like Luna, look at t1000 with the girls and then when he is attack mode.

Reprogrammed by the Resistance to fulfil a mission, other than that it had no other impulse to be "good" or "bad", it just needs to complete its task. It's the specific learning aspect of it in T2 that I'm referencing, the way that John teaches it the value of human life (which BTW jerclay isn't just in the "chip reset" scene in the extended cut, in the theatrical they simply cover that entire concept with a line of ADR: "My CPU is a neural net processor, a learning compudah. Da more contact I have wid humans, da more I learn").

In this one it's not been reprogrammed by an outside agent, it has
[Show spoiler]actually fulfilled its specific mission to kill John and then retreated back into society, learning as it does so and over 20 years it has picked up a "conscience". It also knows that the future it came from is no longer there which further undermines its own directives.
