Surely a Predator fighting native Americans is going to be like shooting fish in a barrel, not exactly much of a challenge for it? Unless it dcides to level the playing field and only hunts with period weaponry to prove it is genuinely worthy of the task...

JJ Abrams also did a similar concept with Cowboys Vs Aliens, which is considered a box office flop.

I find the idea more intriguing than so many other Predator film ideas out there, but I just don't trust Fox or Disney to make truly original content anymore.

JJ Abrams? Jon Favreau surely, it's also called Cowboys & Aliens rather than Vs. I really like that movie.

Cowboys & Aliens is vastly underrated, though it's already almost been 10 years since I've seen it. Wow, time is flying.

I'm not too excited with the posted concept if this is the direction Predator is going.

Cowboys and Aliens is two-thirds a really good movie and one-third a meh movie.

The Native American concept sounds great. I have a soft spot for that Chariots of the Gods-type stuff, so I'm all for it.

You're right.

The film is overall fine, but I feel Harrison Ford was miscast in it. He plays it too straight, too serious, while Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde knew exactly what kind of film they were making; a sci-fi fantasy. Craig's almost child-like reaction of joy after flying in the air, is one of the best scenes in the film.

The setting in the past is something different and possibly interesting all the more reason the script needs to be ironclad in order for viewers buy into an ancient Native Americans with primitive weapons defeating highly intelligent deadly alien life-form armed with advanced tech, if not it will fall flat and not be believable. Definitely has to be one Predator (anymore of them it will be overkill) vs whole tribe if Predator gonna have whole familiar arsenal best bet would to make the Predator a Young-blood (Yautja whose just finished basic training) first time hunting humans making an initiation hunt. Like TheWildWhelk said level the playing field with Predator (hardened veteran) using non-tech weapons with the exception of maybe the cloaking device.

Is it that much different than hunting professional soldiers? Their weaponry would still be "primitive" to the Predator's standards. He wasn't exactly playing fair with his cloaking tech and laser weaponry.

It's much different at our modern weaponry could still prove troublesome against a Predator, in some cases even effective if right circumstances presented itself and even slow it down, but even then Predator insane durability is a major stinking point. The new time period is a whole different ballgame I'd argue the stakes will now be higher if done correctly especially since the technology is far from what they can comprehend, learn alone understand.

Look at the last fight in Shane's movie Giant Predator had ample opportunity to deal a lethal blow but kept throwing him in all our accounts he should be dead. But look at the combined effort it took, including using it's own technology against him.

I actually think this is an interesting idea. I always liked the idea of a Terminator set in the Old West and this could be a similar enterprise.
