As far as smaller sizes - maybe sometime in the future. People are buying bigger TVs. That trend isn't going to change.
8K is cool for 110'', but 4K is fine for the 55-85 inch sets which are to come. People need to stop being fooled by placing so much importance on the resolution. Our eyes, just like our ears can only see and hear so much.

BTW, when is 8K content going to be mainstream? By that time Micro-LED will be available for mass distribution.

8K Micro LED is YEARS away. Samsung's Onyx which is their commercial cinema Micro LED 14 METER "screen" is 4K.

That sounds about right - IMO - 10 years.

Manufacturers are pushing for wide availability of premium and mid-range microLED TVs in the next 5-7 years and the industry players are throwing piles of money at the R&D labs to make the manufacturing and materials less complicated. Until then, miniLED will be leading and dominating the market over that time - beginning next year - and OLED will gradually decline, due to lack of technology advancements.

Masses always support the cheap junk technologies more. Like they will with miniLED. What else is new?

OLED's problem has always been the same from day one . . . Yield Rate. Though it has improved, they are still no where's near what the YR of LCD is.

Is the Samsung micro-LED a true micro-LED? in order to be called micro, each LED can be no larger than 15 microns, whereas the Samsung is closer to 100 microns. So in reality, it's technology somewhere between micro and mini.

As far as yield rates for micro-LED, it's still below 20%, and until they can figure out how to improve yield rate, it will be a pipe dream for most consumers.

microLED

Quote:
First, the term “microLED” means different things to different people. Among display technologists, the definition of a microLED is tied to the size or area of the emitter. Some think the emitter diagonal or side should be defined as less than 100 microns. Others put the dividing line at 50 microns and for AR/VR applications microLEDs need to be less than 10-15 microns.

Secondly, the LED size must also be clearly differentiated from the pixel pitch – i.e. the spacing between full-colour pixels which are made up of red, green and blue microLEDs. An LED display with a pixel pitch of 1mm can be made with either miniLEDs or microLEDs.

I thought they were the leading company in terms of displays, including OLED for smartphones. Didn't LG use to buy OLED from Samsung for their smartphones' displays?

I'm at a crossroads now. My OLED looks to be taking a crap. Out of warranty and LG denied my request. I'll be in the market for a new TV soon. Loved my OLED but this experience has left a bitter taste.

If you can wait a few months, several new mini-led tv's, including a few from Samsung will be coming out. Hopefully they will perform better than the first attempt by TCL.

That would be a serious downgrade from an OLED.

True, but the OP was losing faith in OLED. That's the next best choice, if not OLED. I sure would not recommend a normal black lit LED. If Samsung or Sony can produce a really good mini-led, it would be my choice after OLED. Of course the key word is IF.

2021 1000 nits OLED TV and new A1 series?
"According to rumors revealed by the Korean press, LG Display has developed OLED panels with a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, as well as a new 83" cut, and would be considering a new, more affordable entry level OLED TV "

Care to expound a little further. What exactly happened to your OLED?

I thought nits didn't matter since we have tone mapping. Now watch all the LG shills boast of 1000 nit LG OLED display.

on the surface it looks like letterbox burn in as two strips run across the top and bottom of the screen where the black bars would appear during a 2:35 AR film playback. but it seems to affect reds or anything involving the red pixels you only see it during certain colors. Not sure if just the red pixels have worn out unevenly?

it's most noticable with skin colors as people occupy that space on screen the affected part makes people's skin look sunburned.

last night an LG rep said it would be submitted for possible approval because even though their 3 year warranty goes by manufactured date I was able to submit proof that it's been under 3 years of my actual purchase date. picked up my 2017 model in March of 2018. So fingers crossed.

Mini-LED, Micro-LED and OLED displays: presentstatus and future perspectives

AbstractPresently, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays are two dominant flat paneldisplay technologies. Recently, inorganic mini-LEDs (mLEDs) and micro-LEDs (μLEDs) have emerged by significantlyenhancing the dynamic range of LCDs or as sunlight readable emissive displays. “mLED, OLED, or μLED: who wins?”isa heated debatable question. In this review, we conduct a comprehensive analysis on the material properties, devicestructures, and performance of mLED/μLED/OLED emissive displays and mLED backlit LCDs. We evaluate the powerconsumption and ambient contrast ratio of each display in depth and systematically compare the motion pictureresponse time, dynamic range, and adaptability to flexible/transparent displays. The pros and cons of mLED, OLED, andμLED displays are analysed, and their future perspectives are discussed.

The heat dissipation plate for increasing the luminosity on the Oled panels used by Panasonic and Toshiba will be offered by LG Display to other manufacturers.
