I grew up on the unrated vhs copy of scream. I probably watched that thing a thousand times. So when I finally upgraded to DVD and it was the cut R version, you can imagine how jarring it was. The "few seconds" of differences were as noticeable as a golf ball-sized zit on a person's face. The cuts definitely were not welcome. Even to this day I can't watch the R rated version without cringing. So I hope beyond hope that this 4K is the uncut version. Otherwise, I don't see much use in upgrading. $25 for some better coloring and shading, Etc.... meh.

That shot is LESS than a second, yet if you remove it, the impact on the scene would be obvious (indeed, this was one of the cuts imposed on the legendary R-rated cut of DAWN OF THE DEAD that was briefly released on a double-bill with CREEPSHOW in the early 1980s). In horror movies, those "seconds" often make a big difference.

Not a big fan of horror, so the argument is lost on me I guess. I prefer suspense, atmosphere and tension to balls-out gore for the sake of it, though I do love Dawn of the Dead. (Heh, I got used to seeing Dawn without the exploding head as that was one of the cuts that the BBFC made to the old BMG DVD.)

It was indeed cut, but not by the Mpaa.
It was cut for time not violence.

I think it’s more every cut second is still intact in the movie nothing was removed you still get to see tatums head be crushed , caseys body hanging from the tree , the guts rolling from the boyfriends body etc if them scenes were completely cut from the movie I’d definitely be rolling my arms for a unrated cut but they aren’t there still there just abit shorter

The first two were good, the third seemed like a parody of itself. I thought 4 was pretty forgettable.

I liked the opening scene of SCREAM 3 and the Jay & Silent Bob cameo, but little else, and I actually quite liked SCREAM 4.

Scream 3 is the only one in the series I didn't enjoy. 4 was a nice rebound after the 11 year hiatus.

Could definitely feel the tonal shift in Scream 3 but I still really enjoyed it.

Really hoping the original trilogy gets 4K treatment. Watched Scream 4 Blu the other month and it held up well PQ wise. Film was still good fun too.

I'm not a big fan of horror either now that I think of it. And just like this series I tend to mostly enjoy the original films and never much the sequels. Thinking Halloween, elm Street, exorcist, ......

But I love me some Evil Dead trilogy.

I’ll be perfickly honest and say that I like Scream 3 a lot and literally cannot remember anything about 4 other than the opening scene within an opening scene within an opening scene, which annoyed the piss out of me.

Hot take: Scream 2 is my favourite tho

Honestly, I think 1, 2 and 4 are about on par with each other. Sometimes I think 2 might be my favourite, but otherwise, I'm not really sure.

Scream 3 is a bore.

Agree completely, 4 is such a blast. 3 isn’t very good, but I do like some things in it. Parker Posey is delightful.

The two shots I love the most from the unrated cut are the slower zoom in on Casey and the pan down to the huge puddle of Stu’s blood. Those were a bit more atmospheric IMO than just a few extra seconds of Tatum-doll and Kenny’s slit throat.

Then again, the little extra bit of Steve’s guts pouring out is quite beautiful.

I fully expect the theatrical cut but will be ecstatic if we get the unrated, or dare I say, both cuts. But yeah…theatrical it will be.

And Scream 2 might be one of if not the best horror sequel of all time. I stand by this.

Scream 3 is god damn awful in my opinion. 1 and 2 are classics, about as good as each other. I think the 2nd is actually the scariest. 4 is almost great but is just a bit too goofy (though still nowhere near as goofy as 3). I unfairly blame Ehren Kruger for all the bad things about it and attribute all the good parts to Williamson.
