I have the High Octane collection, which has the 4K of Fury Road, the Madness of Max documentary, and the Black and Chrome edition of Fury Road on a separate BD. I also have the Kino edition of Mad Max on 4K. I think I'm just going to get the singles for the Road Warrior and Beyond the Thunderdome. Buying the 4K Anthology just seems like an exercise in redundancy and clutter.

Personally, I think I'm going to sell of my High-Octane set and go with the following: Mad Max - 4K Kino Release Mad Max 2/The Road Warrior - 4K Warner Release Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome - 4K Warner Release Mad Max: Fury Road - Color/Black & Chrome BD Release The Madness of Max - Warner Archive DVD Release That way the only thing I'm missing is the 4K disc for Fury Road, but since that disc is an upscale anyway, I feel like I'm not missing out on too much. The regular BD release looks great anyway. |

Is Warner really including a disc from Kino Lorber in a set?!

Nowhere on the package does it say "Mad Max disc distributed by Kino Lorber." It does, however, show DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Mono, which are what the Kino Lorber disc has, suggesting that Warner is including a boutique label's disc in a set. And the digital code only applies to all the movies except Mad Max (boutique labels can't give out digital codes.)

If MGM sold the 4k rights to Kino, what choice would Warner have but to negotiate with them if they wanted to make the set?
Re: digital code, MGM is also still not in MA, so that would make the redemption instructions pretty complicated if they included a code. |

MGM did not sell the rights to Kino but more than likely Kino either provided discs without art or the disc master to Warner. MGM would not have enough elements to provide to Warner.

That last part is what I'm thinking too. On the Finnish artwork for the Mad Max 1 4K release, it lists all of the extras on Kino's release but it can't be a direct duplicate of the discs because Kino, like most boutique labels, don't provide any alternate languages or subtitles on their releases, so Warner would have to add them. This'll be the first instance I've seen something like this happen but all things considered, it seems to be the case.

It's one of those rare cases when a studio realised that they can't crap out a barebones version when a pretty dang decent version exists, even if the Kino is 'only' a US release. People are a little bit more savvy these days and know that there are other markets they can turn to to buy a movie that they like with features that they want (although US buyers are still more parochial than most, "I ain't buying no Merican film from some foreign country!" etc). So if Warners are going to produce a new UHD and BD - the source materials for which they'd have to get from MGM anyway - for overseas markets then why not make it match the Kino so local buyers are getting the best package too?
That the Anthology is also being released in the US is another factor, if Warners/MGM were to include a UHD that didn't match the Kino for tech specs e.g. Dobly Vision and OG Aussie Mono then they'd look like proper tits. |

I am curious what the inner packaging will be like for this box set, if it will basically be the individual releases with their slipcovers in a slipcase, or if it will be something different. I technically need RW, BT, and FR, I already own the Kino release of Mad Max from last year, but I could also just sell that and get this box set.
