Yeah, I'm still waiting for the one Clark Gable movie that still only exists on VHS. I don't think it will ever emerge, it's just forgotten now. :-(

Edit - The Gable film is "But Not For Me" in case anyone's wondering. Marlene Dietrich in "Monte Carlo Story" is still VHS only, too. I'd settle for a decent DVD-R of either. Warner or otherwise.

The WAC site sales were still better, because they were sitewide for single titles. Though Amazon's "sale" isn't completely consistent, it does seem like they're discounting most of the poorer-selling titles more while some of the more popular recent ones aren't dipping below $13.90.

For noir buffs, buying WAC DVD-Rs is almost essential. There are over 50 noirs not reissued on BD and most will never be. Not to mention the 25 or so noirs released in the pressed Classic Collection sets that WAC (or Criterion!) haven't upgraded yet either.

I was so happy to get that DVR to replace my bootleg with! Here is my favorite performance from that film. I saw these guys probably about 15 times back in the late 70's and early 80's. Those were some crazy times....

Then you should check this out. Lux lets some patients help out with the vocals.

Back on the DVD-R topic, I bought this because I still don't think we will ever get a blu, though I hope I am wrong...

My late father-in law saw this as a kid with his friends in the theater when it came out. By the time the movie was over it was dark and they had to walk through some woods to get home. He said they were all terrified that a hand was going to jump out from behind a tree and grab them by the throat, haha.

Sheesh ... Jim Morrison got arrested for way less.

Apparently that mic was well-grounded.

Oh, I remember this one from VHS days. It was a good decade or so before I got the chance to finally see them live. Sometimes all you had were those lofi videotapes to replay.

I've read that around an hour of unused performances were cut from the theatrical print. If WAC could find and restore them. . . Won't happen, of course, but a boy can dream.

Unfortunately, the Splodgenessabounds song "Two Little Boys" had to be left off the DVD due to rights issues. If this ever gets a Blu-ray release, hopefully Warner can reinstate it.

The only Warner Archive DVD(-R) I own. Childhood favorite. Probably zero chance of a Blu.

I have nothing to add but Lex Interior is the greatest front man ever. Prove me wrong. Glad to see some other fans here.

You mean Lux Interior

I once had the Napa State Hospital VHS but I have no idea what happened to it. Garbage Man is one of my favorite music videos ever:

Thanks everyone for continuing the conversation and bringing in DVD-R discussion! DVD-Rs are still viable for WAC, always better to have it available than not.

Here's some more visual references of price adjustments for those that need it -

$10.99 $11.99 $10.00 $12.10
$12.60 $12.60 $11.49

Just received an Archive title from Amazon and all it came in was one of those white plastic bags. Absolutely no care for their products or customers.

I just received a copy of Maniac Cop today in a white bag. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come

Received 30 Rock: The Complete Series in one. Hole punched clear through the top of the set into one of the cases, entire cardboard slipbox looked weathered and rounded from constant movement inside the bag. Once opened, holding the product and shaking slightly, all that could be heard was something akin to the sound of sand falling, which I assume was the shattered insides of the cases. Getting to the point where ordering discs from Amazon is a bit too stressful. I buy far less nowadays, not because I can't find things I want, but because it isn't worth this shit Amazon does to cut corners.

I must be lucky because up til recently Amazon has sent my films in brown paper packages. Not as good as the cardboard mailers they used in the past, but serviceable. Yesterday they sent me the Best Picture Essentials 10 Movie Collection in a thin plastic bag. What the hell? Luckily, nothing was damaged, but that really is shabby customer service.
