The film is alright after suffering through a ridiculous first act, very well shot and I am not surprised that audiences like it but Jann Mardenborough´s real story is much more interesting. It´s too complicated for 2 hours due to the many racing series changes he went through and a lot of his career being in Japan but it is quite compelling. Easily enough material for an 8 to 10-ep mini-series due to his many highs and lows. Always the 2nd or 3rd but he is still at it. His lack of money to stay in the big leagues might finally be solved due to becoming a name with this film. 6/10
For the record. Forza > Gran Turismo but the Microsoft series is of course a rip-off. |

One of the more interesting things I've never heard of is this GT academy. How many talented people are out there that never got the opportunity to show the world what they could do?
Most reality tv competitions do find a few hidden gems before the talent pool dries out. If American Idol didn't exist would we still have Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson? Reading up on his career, Jann proved he belonged as a professional racer. |

Saw this in IMAX last night. Very enjoyable! I did go in with rock bottom expectations though. Neil Blomkamp directed the racing scenes and especially the crashes very well. David Harbor killed it as usual.

GT theme, but based mostly on a kid playing GT video games, then becoming a real car racer in real life.
The timing to release this during the week most kids go back to school was bad timing IMO> Domestic (35.7%) $20,264,219 International (64.3%) $36,500,000 Worldwide $56,764,219 |

In short, they make some of the real life elements look and sound like the game itself, and early on the character is shown playing the game a couple of times. The crux of the story is that this is not "based on the video game," but rather "a true story about people who played the video game." It is about GT Academy finalists who compete in real world racing. So you'll see the main character play when he qualifies for said competition. It becomes a ringing endorsement for this game as well as a couple of other Sony products. |

Just watched this. Entertaining, if a bit too predictable at times. As a racing fan, I know it was impossible to film everything in the development of Jann, but they tried to cover highlights for general audiences. As sacred as Le Mans is, it hurt me to see that they essentially created their own track layout. Again, for general audiences, it won't matter in the least, but for me, it took me out of the final race. I kinda wish they spent just a bit more time with Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the GT game series, as it's a great story in and of itself. Overall, good fun movie. 7/10.

I remember it started right when GT5 came out. It started as a series of online challenges to keep you playing the game and kind of ballooned out of that into what happened here. I wanted to take part and i had a decent Wheel/Setup but i was a bit busy with work and life at the time to devote any time to it.

Then a couple of minutes later, it's revealed she's his mum. D'oh! ![]() It felt like an odd bit of casting, but as mentioned above, she has racing connections. She's not given a great deal to do, but she does it pretty well. As for the rest of the movie, I wasn't expecting much, but I really enjoyed it. It doesn't exactly do anything new (bar a few fancy effects shots) & hits a bunch of the usual sports movie cliches, but the racing stuff was well put together, David Harbour was excellent, the lead kid was quite likeable, & the music he listens to to calm himself cracked me up every time it was played. ![]() Orlando Bloom's character felt a bit underwritten. I imagine there's an evil corporate subplot involving him sitting on the cutting room floor somewhere. Ditto the evil driver's team owner (his father?). Why hire Thomas Kretschmannn for your movie & then give him so little to do? But hey, the movie already runs 2.14. That's plenty long enough. ![]() 7.5/10 from me. Well worth a look. ![]() |
