Cars 2 isn't a good movie, but it is fun to watch. I also enjoyed Luca.
Turning Red didn't work for me. When its commentary is overshadowed by things in its world that serve less as metaphors and more as actual actions, and those actions are ridiculous and stupid, then I just can't go with it. I liked some of the characters and the art style was fun, but the buck stopped there. |

I own Cars 2 in 4K because it felt wrong to have Cars and Cars 3 on my shelf, so I get it. Luca is an excellent film and you should definitely see it soon. Turning Red is slightly divisive. At it's heart, it's everything Pixar does best, but like Coco, it's story focuses on a specific culture on top of it's female puberty plotline.

I didn't see anything wrong with how Tim Allen responded because at the time when he commented no one, including him I bet, really had that context. I had absolutely no idea until a few days after it premiered. While it's not un-common to have different people voicing the same character on different projects (i.e. the many incarnations of Batman), my first thought if I was Tim Allen and I heard they were making a feature film focused on Buzz Lightyear would be...why didn't they ask me to do it? The problem came from radical MAGA types who glommed onto the topic and wanted to make it out as some type of slight against Tim Allen due to his politics. He handled it fine. Those leeches just tried to gain some clicks off of it. Regardless, I'm not sure why the studio thought this whole idea would be successful no matter who voiced the character. It's too convoluted. Plus, the primary audience for the Toy Story franchise has aged out of it. I was pretty close to the target age for the first film when it came out and now my own children are too old to be interested in these movies...yet enough time hasn't passed without them to make them nostalgic. It was just a bad idea. |

I don't think it was a bad idea considering Toy Story 4 made more than a billion. I just think the execution was lacking. The movie was dull, uninspired and unimaginative, and it had a boring design and color scheme for a movie that is supposed to be set in the 80's or the 90's (whatever the director claimed last cause he likes to change his answers when confused interviewers or people on twitter ask him about it, maybe he changed it to the 70's since then, who knows). I just don't think it had anything to appeal to either children or adults.
Too bad the movie thread is closed cause the movie comes out on Disney+ next week and there will probably be more people who will want to comment on it. |

This is not at all surprising. There is very little financial upside in them providing the 3D version. It would increase costs for production, transit and more all for what is a very small and steadily shrinking market. There have been about 9 3D disc releases in 2022 and only 5 of those were even remotely close to successfully theatrically. It's a lost cause.

Disney changed their Ultimate Collector’s Editions awhile ago when 3D moved to a primarily theatrical experience. The UC part of UCE is now the 4K disc.
