Heh, at least you guy get these in some form. In Sweden, we don't. Pretty sure I've imported the majority of my BD and UHD collection from the US and UK.

Social media plebs are already making a stink about this not being a Criterion release. Will never understand the aggressive loyalty to a label that, until quite recently, was openly dismissive of the UHD format. (That said they did a very nice job with their semi-recent blu release of the film.)

Do Blu-rays even exist in the land of the Swedes?

They do, but many of the films released by boutique labels in the US and UK don't make it over here, and even the majors don't bother giving us everything they release in North America and the UK. It's a smaller market and, obviously, companies like Arrow, Eureka, Criterion, etc. don't have a presence here either.

There are a couple boutique labels, but they don't always take an interest in the films the aforementioned companies put out. Take something like the Godzilla and Gamera films released by Criterion and Arrow for example. Swedish boutique labels don't care, possibly/probably because there isn't enough interest among the Swedes that actually buy Blu-rays to make it worth their while. Same with lots of other genre fare from around the world.

Again, a combination of small country = small market, and with physical media becoming less mainstream and these formats being as niche as they are... well. On top of that, sometimes when we do get a domestic release of something, it may well be that there are better foreign alternatives anyway.

So all the descriptions say two disc set. Are both movies on one 4K disc and one 2K disc? I might get the set for the remastered 2K Blu-ray.

Ahhh, never mind. I see it’s WoW on 4K and WWC on blu. Weird way to release this double feature. Don’t need this set then.

It's The War of the Worlds on UHD and When Worlds Collide on Blu-ray. No disc-sharing.

Extras wise should contain everything minus the two exclusive criterion pieces on the restoration and sound design??

BTW - can anyone who's seen the 4K DV stream remark on how it compares to the Criterion? I know both transfers utilize the same underlying scan but I'm rather curious as to any potential coloring differences.

I have the iTunes DV stream but just sold the Criterion Blu without ever opening it. But the stream is very nice.

A pretty underwhelming release. War of the worlds deserved it's own separate release for it's UHD debut, imo.
I could have seen the original poster on a nice paramount slipcover. Oh well, no biggie, I own the Criterion release and it's pretty fantastic. It would have to have been a pretty terrific release for me to get the movie again (i must have bought WoTW at least 4 times by now haha).
What a great movie, mind you!

So by your logic, if War of the Worlds was released by itself, you wouldn't label it underwhelming then?

Doesn't it feel like it to you? Packaging seems a bit weird to me and there's a second movie only on blu ray. On top of it, War of the worlds doesn't include the blu ray either.
Anyway, happy others will enjoy it, i'm good with my Criterion. I was just surprised by the choices Paramount made here. :/

No, not at all. The fact that we're getting an extra movie as a bonus is a good thing. How anyone could see that as a negative is beyond me. It's not like the two movies aren't related, they're both George Pal Sci-fi Classics, and that's exactly how the set is being presented.

To each their own. After Criterion's great release, it's hard to get excited about this one, personally. But glad you are looking forward to it, War of the worlds deserves to be supported again and again, it's that great of a movie.

You don't consider the prospect of a native 4K HDR presentation to be pretty terrific? Also the bonus film is just that, a bonus- and on an entirely separate disc to boot. Not sure why its inclusion word irk anyone as even Criterion is known to throw in an extra film from time to time.

Ah, well glad to hear it looks nice! Like many here I'll be hanging on to the CC edition for the excellent array of supplements. The Orson Welles related material in particular is fun to revisit.

It truly is a a free bonus film by the way, the MSRP is exactly the same as Paramount Presents' other 4K release of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. So you can't even argue that you're paying extra for them including WWC.

This will probably be around $30-35 by release date and I’ll gladly pay it for these two.

I'm not technical about this stuff. Do I have to own a 4K player in order to watch a 4K disk? I don't care wether it's 4K or not, I just want the WOTW disk to play on my standard blu-ray player. Will that work?
