I had seen something a month or two back (don't remember the source, but it was a YouTube video, so take that for what it's worth) about it being OOP and that it was starting to go for high prices on Ebay. At the time, everyplace I checked was out of it, and it only turned up on Amazon again in the last couple days (third-party sellers notwithstanding). That prompted me to check Target, knowing the b2g1 sale was coming up. I was only keeping tabs on it on Amazon in the interim, as it was on my wishlist, so I have no idea if any other stores got it back in stock before that.

This new stock is a reprint, so it was definitely OOP before that. Others in the reprint wave included Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge over the River Kwai, and Heavy Metal.

Got mine from Amazon today in a thin white bubble mailer... in completely perfect condition and no scratches on the discs! Dreams do come true!

My first copy arrived damaged but there was no way to get a replacement as it sold out.

Once the re-print dropped, I decided to roll the dice again. Steelbook is free of dents but scratched on the front and back.

It appears as though they quietly updated the Blu-ray because my first copy had the original disc from ‘08.

Grabbed this a few weeks ago on Amazon for less than $16. Showed up way early today with only plastic wrap….no box…in perfect condition. My opinion is the new DV presentation is well worth the “upgrade.” Don’t even need an A/B demo to see it..really looks better. Could care less either way about the artwork, all I see is the spine on my shelf anyway.

But if you only wanted the 4K disc and don't care about the steelbon art...why not buy the regular 4K when it's on sale?

They're the same price right now anyway, and I think it was cheaper last month during the prime day sale.

I easily sold my standard 4k release. My point was DV was a worthwhile upgrade on Starship Troopers. So far …that is only offered in steel, which I could care less about as a packaging option. It’s nice, I just don’t care. I still have two unopened bat box CDs from around 89’. I even regret those purchases….music is the same as the regular release.

I just got my copy from Amazon after ordering it a month or so ago when it was on sale. Unfortunately, it was bent on the side where it opens and has a dent on the back. Ugh. First time I think I've had to deal with a steelbook this damaged. Is it worth trying to exchange it? What will Amazon do in cases like this if I try to exchange it? It's not completely destroyed so they might say it's fine as is.

That's on them on both counts.

They're supposed to make sure it gets to you on time, and reasonably undamaged. While they might argue about you should have reached out when it was late, they still need to replace it if it's within the return window.

I'm fine with it taking a month to arrive because it did say something like "will ship in 3-4 weeks" when I ordered. Just wish it wasn't smashed up.

Steelbooks from Amazon is a lottery, the older it is the harder it is to find a good one. When I got my Army of Darkness Steelbook on sale I had to return it three times to find a good one that didn't have scratched discs inside. I get things bent or find a spine slash on preorders occasionally so there's no science to it. Would be better to just box these things like speakers from the manufacturer and never let them bang around naked at the warehouse.
