Default Resident Evil Requiem (release date ~ 2026)

Quote:
Resident Evil 9 is looking like it could be quite a monster for Capcom. The Resident Evil franchise is the most tried and true horror franchises in gaming. So many games in the series are considered all-time classics such as Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, and even some of the spin-off games. It has managed to even survive total reinvention with games like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village following new sets of characters, throwing in things like werewolves and vampires, and moving to a first-person perspective. Although some fans were skeptical the series could pull any of this off, it worked really well. However, Resident Evil: Village largely tied up the Ethan Winters story, leaving fans to wonder what comes next.

According to longtime Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem (via GamingBible), Resident Evil 9 is shaping up for a 2025 launch at the moment. It is expected to have the biggest budget and longest development time of any game in the series, with it beginning production back in 2018, a year after Resident Evil 7.

Definitely looking forward to it. Since RE7, Resident Evil has returned to be one of my most anticipated franchises.

I have to say that for longevity, Resident Evil has done really well alongside Street Fighter for Capcom. That said, i haven't probably played a game all the way through since maybe RE5 on PS3.

I know Village got decent reviews, but i've just probably never felt drawn in because as a child, Resident Evil 1 and that first zombie reveal probably unlocked the first real fear. Don't get me wrong though, i actually confronted that fear when a bit older via RE Code Veronica but also i think a game i never finished.

I bought the HD version of Resident Evil when it was part of that collection but overall i have to give props to Capcom for listening to feedback and keeping things fresh.

Capcom is well-known in the gaming world for hit franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Mega Man, among several others. Many of those games, particularly the modern Resident Evil titles, have benefited from user support in the form of mods. Who can forget all of the hilarious costumes players added to Mr. X when Resident Evil 2 Remake was released? However, a recent video shows that Capcom might not view the modding scene in the same light as many in the community. In fact, the RE creator claims that user mods are "no different" from cheating.

A few days ago, the Capcom R&D YouTube channel posted a new video outlining its internal recommendations for anti-cheat and anti-piracy measures on PCs. Among this list of recommendations is the company's stance on mods, claiming that user creations are "no different" from cheating when it comes to how they negatively impact a specific game.

Slightly off-topic.

Dang. Can't believe it's been two years since Village came out.

I just hope that they bring back Claire. She's been missing for far too long and I think a story centered around her would be interesting and fun.

I am a touch curious tbh how Chris ended up becoming a main lead in so many with Claire being there for like 2 main entries people may remember.

Jill and Chris were playable in Resident Evil 1.
Claire and Leon for Resident Evil 2.
Jill Valentine for Resident Evil 3 (Carlos for short scenes)
Leon for Resident Evil 4
Chris Redfield and Sheva in Resident Evil 5
Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 6
Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 7 and 8

So, it seems like both the ladies have had a bit of a short shrift, and i do sincerely wonder if this is because their own internal data showed sales of the games were higher with a male lead. That said, i do know there's spin offs with Claire like Code Veronica and maybe a few others.

I'd be down for a Jill, Claire and/or Sheva story. Could be super rad.

Honestly, i feel like Barry has been given a weird situation in RE games but has appeared in the animated movies and also seemed to play a decent role in the books. I know not a lot of people actually know that there's Resident Evil books with more independent stories that were out there too.

Personally i think the most important thing is to have a solid story to tell, followed by proper gameplay to facilitate that. I think recently, we have seen Capcom be a little too authentic to the originals even making RE3 have some problems to put it a peg lower than RE2

Personally i haven't played RE7 or RE8. Whenever i do get around to it. Easy mode and increased brightness just to play for the story is what i'll do.

Resident Evil fans worried about the fate of Resident Evil 9 can rest a bit easier now that concerns about a delay "can be pushed aside," according to the Resident Evil insider who first shared word of those possible delays. Dusk Golem, a reputable source for Resident Evil news and Capcom updates overall, returning on Friday a week after first expressing concerns of a delay to walk back that claim and say that things are all good now. Even better for Resident Evil fans excited for the next installment after Resident Evil Village, it's expected that the next game in the series will be revealed soon with Resident Evil 9 supposedly targeting a January 2025 release date.

Dusk Golem shared a thread on Twitter regarding Resident Evil 9 that opened with the good news about the game being back on track following whatever snafu it encountered that caused worry it might be delayed.

I hope the plot isn't gonna be as daft as RE8 is. But I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom decided to be all ridiculous again, and add in some stupid looking enemies.

RE8 has a lot of weird enemies, including Angie, Heisenberg and so on.

I loved RE8 up until they brought back the old character and the game completely changed tone. The first few hours especially were fantastic. It makes me wish for what could have been.

I know Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is considered a spinoff because it was originally released for the Dreamcast, but I personally view it as a mainline entry. Whereas Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village feel more like spinoffs to me. So, whatever they do, I hope they leave the stories of those two entries behind. I don't even want to see Rose back. Bring back Claire, Jill, Sheva, and Rebecca, with Barry as a co-protagonist, and Leon and Chris in supporting roles.

Heck, whatever happened to Carlos? I wouldn't mind a full adventure with him reconnecting with Jill.

I loved playing as Barry in Resident Evil: Revelations 2, even if they were trying to make out like Barry and Natalia were supposed to be a lot like Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us series.

RE9, bring back the 3rd person view at launch this time and give the option for first person too. For 2 FPS view games in a row now, Capcom goes back with updates many months later, and adds a 3rd person option. Just put that in from the start please, Capcom/Capsule Computers.

Figured I'd share this, it's still just a potential (but corroborated?) leak at this point though.

According to well-known leaker Dusk Golem and corroborated by IGN, Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are the next remake entries for the franchise, though no order was given to their release. Resident Evil Zero originally came out on Nintendo GameCube in 2002 and then received an HD remaster in 2016. Meanwhile, Resident Evil: Code Veronica released on Sega Dreamcast in 2000 before getting an HD remaster in 2011.
Never played either of these myself, so I'm down.

I sincerely hope Code Veronica is first before 0. It needs it a lot more than 0 does.

I'll take whatever remakes they are cooking up alongside Resi 9.

Zero, Code Veronica, Original & 5 would all be fantastic with the modern style third person camera controls.
