Just in case the same thing applies here?
B&N site had a listing for both standard and 4k Brutalist, and only standard Queer

A24 Shop does not mention anything regarding HDR10 or Dolby Vision. (The other 4K sets with HDR do.) Am I missing something?

Seems A24, Universal, and Elevation's 4K releases will all have HDR10. Just no DV.

Speaking of, artwork for the Elevation release is up.

BABYGIRL is on VOD already while THE BRUTALIST won't be for another week.

I guess Brady Corbet already said everything he wanted to say while promoting the movie, but still a director's commentary would have been nice.

I would assume so. I thought this had a Dolby Atmos mix, but it seems it does not, so I presume the original audio is 5.1.

Elevation's back cover also lists a 201-minute run time, so it looks like they also cut the intermission down to one minute. Elevation includes the audio commentary, but drops the 25-minute featurette The Architects of The Brutalist.

It will be interesting to compare all three discs, as I assume Universal's 201-minute presentation will be jammed with dubs and possibly player-generated texts. I haven't seen the film and likely won't be able to see it in cinemas, so I'll probably go for the A24 to see what they did for the intermission.

Elevation will definitely have a better encode than A24, as evidenced by THE ZONE OF INTEREST. I imagine Universal beats A24 as well, but the question is how Uni stacks up to Elevation. I don't see their release having as many dubs as OPPENHEIMER, though.

Also, does this mean Uni could have the Lol Crawley audio commentary too?

Kaleidescape has it listed as 3hr 21min. Did they cut the intermission down to one minute, or is it just incorrect. Either way, I'm glad my 4K disc will include the full intermission. Loved that composition that played. Just stayed in my seat listening. No phone.

The Intermission music is available on the OST too.

It depends what Universal want to do as I would guess that they could access the commentary it they wanted to. For what it's worth, Bluray-disc.de says the following about the German disc:

Quote:

UPDATE 2 (from February 7th): UPHE has now revealed the final details on technical features and equipment. "The Brutalist" will be released on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray, each with German Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and English original sound in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 format. Bonus material is not currently planned.
but they don't always get accurate information, so take it with a grain of salt.

He seems to be anti-commentary between this and VOX LUX, which does not surprise me.

The 5.1 bit is accurate, though. Seems that's what Corbet intended, based on the iTunes listing.

I don't know if I'll jump to this conclusion prematurely. Zone was elevation's first 4k that wasn't a port. We don't know if they will be better.

Elevation cut down the intermission unlike A24, FWIW.

Universal also did. Until we have comparisons, all we have is hope and speculation.

By the time it ships, I just may find a proper frame to matte the poster from A24 for the opening weekend at The Village East, because if I'm being honest, it's more than a little tight around the edges:

I got the 'AFI Silver engagement' poster the other day.

This is standard third party/boutique label stuff, mate. Not everyone functions like Amazon or Target.

Personally, I like to watch movies, particularly movies shot on film, without a bunch of compression artifacts and macroblocking.
From what I understand, the intermission shouldn’t negatively affect the 4K encode. Modern encoders (x264/x265) use variable bitrate (VBR), so static scenes like an intermission (a still image with music) are highly compressible and take up very little bitrate. If anything, this actually makes the encode more efficient, not worse.

Either way, the overall quality of the encode should stay the same or very similar, since bitrate is allocated based on motion and complexity. Now if we're talking about who does a better job at encoding Universal vs A24,or if they're using the same transfer (There's been some debate on the green knight for example), that's worth thinking about.

Universal I'd definitely trust more than A24, but who knows. Also, worth mentioning THE GREEN KNIGHT in the UK came from Entertainment in Video, a label that is not very good at all

Are A24 encodes poor? I’m not sure about the films they’ve released that already have other 4Ks like EEAAO, but I thought Stop Making Sense looked amazing and it seems The Lighthouse is only slightly worse than the Arrow
