Remember, these same people were thinking there was no way to have 60 people on one map without total chaos. Then, came R2 with "Skirmish". That's what breaking new ground is all about. |

Ok. Technically speaking, it's looking good so far, and if they can deliver on the 256 smooth multiplayer, it's going to be great for a ton of people.
But am I the only one that wishes that Sony would get a high profile high Sci Fi (Space opera / Aliens / Monsters) type exclusive TPS or FTS on with really varied settings, great storyline and exotic ennemies? So far I know of one series, that doesn't even really fit the bill that well ... Resistance and its sequel, and frankly it just isn't really "high sci fi", WWII locales and all. More like "alternative past", with yet another ton of "realistic" urban settings and forests. I mean ... how many time must we have the urban type shooters with grey/ brown palletes before they realize that some people are hungry for high level Sci fi Alien shooting TPS/ FPS? Quantum theory is coming, aye, and it won't arrive one second too late, but the quality of that title is still to be seen. So far we have, regardless of the quality of the titles (my point here is about story, setting and locales, and exotic ennemies): - Haze: immediate future, humans fighting humans in industrial complexes and the jungle - MGS4: immediate future, humans fighting humans in industrial complexes, urban settings and the jungle - SOCOM: Present, humans fighting humans in industrial complexes and urban settings - Resistance: Alternate past, humans fighting aliens and infected humans in WWII urban settings - Resistance 2: Alternate Past, humans fighting Aliens and infected humans in WWII urban settings and forest - Killzone 2: Not so distant future, humans fighting humans (slightly mutated) in urban settings and industrial complexes And to come (apparently): MAG: Future/ not so distant future, humans fighting humans, in urban settings, industrial complexes and forests The PS3 needed to build itself a good library of shooters, there is no doubt about it, and it did imo. But frankly, I just played Killzone 2 this past week and once we put aside the technical marvels, I am just sick to death of the industiral / urban/ grey/ brown settings. I know there might be a slight change later on with plains or forests, but I gave up toward the end of chapter 2, as after FEAR a few yers back on PC, I have had my dose of shooters in repetitive grey/ brown settings. Far from me to remove the title of awesome FPS to Killzone2, everything felt great, the ennemy and ally AI is excellent and probably better than FEAR's (which has been one of the best I have met), and the Graphics/ FX and gameplay are ultra- solid. I just wish for more variety. Also (and I am no MS fan), look at two of the best selling TPS/ FPS of the past 10 years: Halo and Gears. you'd think that hiring a great writter and setting something in what I like to call a High Sci Fi setting would be a No Brainer ![]() In the end, I just hoped that MAGs would have been more like StarShip Troopers, and a little less like Platoon, that is all. /rant over. P.S: they also need a new name for MAG ![]() Last edited by Elandyll; 04-13-2009 at 04:01 AM. |

For me, Killzone 2 definitely upped the ante a bit.
This title has some serious potential. I'd love to be in a 256-battle smash-fest. OMG, it was like 157 on 1. Of course I got pwned. ![]() Grenade anyone? ![]() |
