I excited for this release! The first Uncharted was outstanding & made the PS3 shine! Next year will be another great year for the PS3. Sony should think about snatching Naughty Dog up if they keep putting out quality gems like this one!

I agree. They need to keep them locked up. Or else the big Micro$oft will jump in with their garbage truck full of cash and steal more exclusives.

Default Trailer is In-Game Graphics

I'm not sure it's going to be any surprise to you Uncharted Fans (I admit I still have to play it), but a -lot- of discussions have sparked online since the apparition of the trailer. In particular, the big question has been: Is the trailer CGI or not, a lot of people apparently thinking it was pre-rendered.

Here is the official explanation by Naughty Dog:

http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/game-...e-$1252556.htm

Naughty Dog: Uncharted 2 Teaser is Real-Time
Wednesday, 03 Dec 2008 09:46

Nathan Drake - Cold and Weary The Uncharted 2 teaser trailer sent waves through the forums. One question that kept arising? is the trailer rendered in real-time, or is it fancy CGI? Naughty Dog has exclusively given Gamezine the answer.

Richard Diamant, Naughty Dog's Lead Character Artist, told Gamezine? “Yes, the trailer was all rendered real-time in our engine.”

So there you have it. Naughty Dog are one of the few developers to dislike creating false expectations with CGI trailers, and just like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, their very first teaser is rendered in real-time.

To watch the trailer, please follow this link to our previous story on the title.

[UPDATE] - I'm noticing a lot of people saying, “So what if it's real-time? It's a cutscene not gameplay.” If we refer back to a Richard Diamant interview I gave in 2007, the differences between cutscenes and gameplay were few and far between in the original game?

“Patrick: The characters in Uncharted are some of the most impressive video game models to date. They look even more impressive up close in the cutscenes. Are in-game models any different from the cutscene models?

Richard: Thanks! Nope, in game models are the exact same models that are used in the cutscenes. They also use the exact same textures. There really is no difference between them at all.

The only difference between the cutscenes and in game is a little higher quality lighting and shadowing. Hopefully not too noticeably different. We really wanted to keep the players immersed as much as possible. This meant using the same assets across the board. “
Color me impressed

Sony bought Naughty Dog years and years ago.

So, what impresses me most in this trailer is Naughty Dog's snow displacement effect. You've got the Dead or Alive 3 style holes or tracks where Nate walks, except it's probably more acurate. But the first time I've seen this done - as the snow gets compressed and pushed outwards it makes the surrounding snow rise a little at the edges. Excellente.

Something else that's not so obvious, it's sometimes hard to see through the video compression but Nate's top has a nice vertical line detail texture to it.

Naughty Dog should be very proud of their work with the Uncharted series. We're talking about benchmarks in multiple categories here; graphics, fun replay and voice acting. Just top tier stuff.

I am still amazed at the quality of voice acting and dialogue from the first game.

There would be some dislplacement of the snow and would not the heat of the bullet cause additional melting.

I was amazed at the overall quality of the entire first game. Everything, every last detail, seemed to have more polish and more effort than in any other game ive played. Right from the first menus, I knew that game was something special

I don't think the hole would be as big or noticeable as you'd first think. Depends how deep the snow is of course.

Stunning music immediately from the menus too. I hope they've got Greg Edmonson composing again.

I was impressed with Uncharted and after seeing that trailer for the second one, its hard to even compare the two as the second one is clearly in the next league.

I imagine those garbage trucks are already full enough with all those RRODed 360s.

I wouldn't worry about Naughty Dog! They are a wholly owned Sony subsidiary. Unless MS can come up with, oh I don't know, $60-70bn to buy Sony I wouldn't worry too much.
