If it is working flawlessly, what are you looking to gain from a new one?

Well, problem is that I do have 7.1 setup, and i borrowed Rambo BlueRay from a friend, and tried to watch it using Blueray drive attached to my HTPC.

My HTPC is connected to Denon 3801 using Optical for 5.1 and RCA for 7.1. I can test 7.1 using PC, and it sends the test tone to all 7.1 speakers.

When I watch the movie Rambo, I watch software based blueray player from Cyberylink which I select 8 speaker for Audio, and then I select external for Denon, but the sound is just not that impressive..

Am I missing something?

I have a Denon 790 receiver and was wondering does it have a mode that will lower the bass or turn it off for watching movies or playing games at night? Im a beginner when it comes to receivers and audio. I've tried reading the Denon manual with no luck at understanding any of that. I know some receivers have a night mode that does this. Any help would be appreciated.

It does have a night mode. It also has dynamic volume which is great for late night stuff when others are sleeping.

Is the dynamic volume the night mode? If not how the heck do I access the separate night mode? I don't see a button on the stock remote or in the manuel .

It would appear that in the 2010 line they have ditched the separate night mode because of dynamic volume. Which makes sense because it does a far superior job anyway. With dynamic volume there are 3 settings to choose from: day, evening, and midnight. The degree of the adjustment depends on which setting you choose. They are described on page 47 of your manual.

My 2309 had both night mode and dynamic volume. I tried them both and always used dynamic volume. It really is better. I now have a 4310 and assumed it had both but until today hadn't checked. Dynamic volume is IMO awesome, take some time to experiment to see which setting will suit you best.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if Dynamic EQ is effective only on a streamed signal and not with LPCM? Here's the situation, I have a PS3 Fatty connected to a Denon AVR1610 in my office. In LPCM mode, Dynamic EQ doesn't sound like it's doing anything (i.e., it sounds the same as LPCM with Audyssey disabled), but when I switch to lossy streaming Dynamic EQ is noticeably active. This makes me wonder if DEQ only works or is perhaps only effective when the 1610 is decoding the audio stream? Any ideas?

Alright. Quick question for which the more detail the answer, the better

Am looking at getting either the 1910 or the 2310 and pairing with either Axiom 50 v2 or Monitor Audio RS6.

I was informed in the Monitor Audio thread that these two receivers probably wouldn't have enough power to drive said speakers. So was thinking about adding an amp.

My only problem is, I have no idea what I am looking at when it comes to amps.

Can anyone suggest me a specific amp that would go nicely, or even a brand to look at?

First, neither of those receivers will support an external amp since they do not have Pre-Outs. You will need to go with the Denon 3310. I would think that you would be able to use that receiver to power the speakers until you could get the external amp (unless they are 4 ohm speakers). I used my Denon 3808 to power my B&W's until I got an external amp.

Once you find a receiver with pre-outs and depending on budget, you can go from Emotiva to Classe and above.

Today, I use the Emotiva XPA-5 with my Denon 3808.

I saw someone in another thread comparing the Marantz 5003 to the Denon 1910, so they may be the same price. Not sure what the Deno nis going for, I think they said the Marantz was under their $500 budget.

Hey guys. I am looking into getting a new receiver and was looking at the Denon AVR 790. Is this a good receiver? One of the questions I have is if the stated power claims are accurate on the lesser models from denon. I know they are accurate on the upper models. I was curious the power claims were like the Pioneer lines where they are right on the money for there expensive elite models but drastically overstated for their lower end models.

One last question. Would you all recommend this receiver or what would you recommend under $500 and where would be the best place to get it?

Sorry for all the questions

I have a AVR-590 for my bedroom setup. GOt it for just over $300 online and could NOT be happier. It is perfect for what I use it for. The remote is a bit :meh", but that is no real issue.

Do Denon receivers actually output their stated power claims with all channels driven or are they only stated for 2 channels driven?
