Cinema Paradiso (1988) - not a hidden gem as it's on IMDB's top 250 list... but maybe more of a lesser watched one.

True Romance (1993) - Any Tarantino fan knows this one, but a lot of people (myself included unfortunately) probably skipped out on it based on the title alone... great movie though
WOW! i forgot about Downfall that is a great movie!

One of the best literary classics turned into film is Count of Monte Cristo with Jim Caviezel. To this day I still have friends who haven't seen it. One of my all-time favorite movies.

Default Pierrepoint

Pierrepoint (2005)

Albert Pierrepoint (Timothy Spall) becomes one of Britain's most prolific executioners, hiding his identity by working as a grocery deliveryman. But when his ambition to be the best inadvertently exposes his gruesome secret, he becomes a minor celebrity and faces a public outcry against the practice of hanging.

I dug this film.

Has anyone heard/seen "Teeth?" Check this out....

....When virtuous high school student Dawn (Jess Weixler) becomes the victim of a sexual assault, she discovers that she has an unexpected line of defense: a toothed vagina. But for Dawn, coming to terms with the power and dangers of her anatomical anomaly may be easier said than done. Director Mitchell Lichtenstein's provocative feminist horror flick also stars John Hensley, Hale Appleman and Josh Pais.

P.S. i'm not making this up! Not great but not horrible either. A little of the old "shock and aweeeeee!"

The acting was beyond horrible and the story was poorly told. Crap all the way around. However, If you recommend it as a comedy, I'll support that.

It's just a lesser known film that is a for kicks viewing, in otherwords "funny/horror" Like "Mothers Day!"

I recommend Buffet Froid, a French movie directed by Bertrand Blier.
But what exactly is the point of recommending a movie ?
It's not like anyone's going to see it just cause he/she reads here that someone they don't know recommends a certain movie.

Long time lurker but I created a account just for this thread lol.

Asian Movies Something I think very unique to a lot of asian movies is the sense of honor and pride and honesty the main characters have.

Twilight Samurai
The Hidden Blade
Love and Honor
A three part series from director Yôji Yamada. Amazing Group of movies. The only negative is that Twilight Samurai and The hidden Blade are very similar.

Mountain Patrol Kekexili
This is in the Netflix instant Q. I dont really know what to say except its a must see.

Letters From Iwo Jima
I dont know how "unknown" this film is being a Clint Eastwood film and all but if you haven't seen it go pick up the blu-ray NOW!

Riding Alone For Thousands Of Miles
Last but not least! My favorite ending to a movie ever. If you are a father you will cry like a school girl. I watched this over a year ago and I still think of this ending on a weekly basis. The movie is a little slow in the middle and the story telling is a little sloppy but like I said the most emotional Ive been at the end of a movie.

Documentaries A few of my favorites. All extremely heart wrenching.

Stevie
Born Into Brothels
Daughter from Danang

Other good ones

The Dish

The Lives of Others My favorite movie of the past few years. (Also on Blu!)

Kolya

Osama
Best movie I will never watch again.

Great Thread!

Gregory's Girl.

Have always enjoyed this film. Not done on a big budget, but works beautifully nonetheless.

A lot of fantastic films already listed here. A few that I would love on blu ray and have really enjoyed are, in no particular order:

The Loved One - 1965- Jonathan Winters, Robert Morse, Liberace, John
Gielgud. Based on the Evelyn Waugh novel. Lesser
known satire from Dr. Strangelove era, great cast.
Something to offend everyone.

Young At Heart - 2007 - documentary about the senior citizens chorus who
sing songs by sonic youth, talking heads, little
richard..etc hysterically funny and very poignant.

City of Lost Children - 1996 - French film by Jeunet and Caro, same guys who
did Delicatessen. Ron Perlman. One on the most
visually beautiful and bizarre films I have ever
seen.

Mute Witness - 1994 - Horror/thriller shot in Moscow. Those who have seen it
know what a thrill ride it is. A Deaf/Mute make up girl
working on a movie set in Russia witnesses a snuff
film being made. Cat and mouse action. Awesome.

Default Minor Hijack...sorry

There is a TV show that I never hear anyone talk about. Its called Damages.

Glen Close: Evil sinister big shot lawyer
Ted Danson: Evil sinister CEO of failed Enron type business
Zeljko Ivanek: Opposing counsel

Fantastic writing and engaging story. Excellence in non-linear storytelling. And the biggest and best love-to-HATE cast of characters. Back stabbing galore. Killer serial. Looks good on Blu.
