After August 17th before I left for college, I was at 125. I was in horrible pain. It only got worse; I came home at the beginning of October and I weighed in at 130. I went home for Thanksgiving and found myself at 135. Then at the end of the semester, all hell broke loose and I was on death's door and I was at 118 POUNDS!!! I was literally a walking corpse at that point. I've been on heavy meds, about 5 different drugs a day which aren't doing Jack now. But I've managed to go back up to 138 which is good. I am still not near 150 and that's where I am trying to get too.
How tall are you? It sounds like you've got some serious health issues. Hopefully whatever it is can be treated. I'm trying to find the parallel from sunburn -> kidney stones -> school -> weight loss. Those all seem so random and unrelated. I've said before I'm not a doctor so perhaps that is ridiculous of me. Do you know what illness (or illnesses) you have?

Maybe you could partake in a little tokey-tokey and get that appetite up so you can eat more.

Bariatric surgery is very traumatic. A lot of them end up with bowel obstructions down the road, which are very painful and also make you sick. In my opinion, if you do a surgery like this, it requires a life style change. The same life style change that one would have to make if they didn't have the surgery in order to lose weight. Many people that have this surgery don't permanantly change the way they eat, and when their stomach stretches back out they put the weight right back on. Start with diet and excersise, lose the weight, stick with diet and excersise, keep the weight off. Just my .02.

I try to eat healthy as much as possible as i can. I have cut out fast food alot. I still eat fast food once in a while but not as much as before. At home i have a George Foreman grill that i mostly cook on.

My only problem i have is that i can't stop drinking soda. It's like i'm addicted to soda. Doctors tell me i should cut back on drinking sodas but it seriously is hard to stop drinking soda.

I have seriously even considered getting some kind of surgery to shed off some weight since it's mostly impossible for me to do by being a member at a gym.

I feel you with the soda brother. Instead of quitting the soda, try to drink a large glass of water for each soda or cup of coffee that you drink during the day. I wouldn't switch to diet soda because the aspertame, the artificial sweetener, in there is way worse for you than the sugar in the soda.

Keep in mind that when you burn fat, the fat cells are still there, just smaller. Fat cells divide and increase in number, but never decrease in number. So, when you've lost the weight and feel good about yourself and revert to your old habbits, those fat cells fill back up real fast. In order to lose the fat, you gotta cut back on the sugars tho.

It's weird i find when im extremely thristy say after working out in the yard on a hot day, drinking water actually taste good and is actually easy to do. But when im say just want something to wet the whistle i almost have to force water down as it just taste so damn horrible. I dont get it and wish i could cut soda out all togather but sometimes i just cant stand the taste of water.

Yeah, soda is bad in a number of ways. I love it, but I just don't include in my life for the most part -- at least not on a regular basis. I'll have it when I go to movies (very rare), or when I go out to dinner (also rare), or when I go to a BBQ or special holiday occasion or something. Otherwise, I just don't drink it. Not that I'm an angel or anything; I just really try to be careful on things. Soda is one of them. It's easy to lose a grasp on soda intake. The same can be said of coffee or any drink, really. Water is your friend.

Do you have a filter? I got one of those britta filter piture thingies, and it helps with some of the bad taste from the faucet and it's nice and cold in the fridge.

I use to drink soda 3-4 a day. I use to have brita filters but I still found some taste in it , or I forgot to replace the water and had to wait while it was filtering.

I bought a watercooler and I have been drinking water like crazy. It costs me 5$ for 5 gallons. I love it Plus getting it from the store and walking back is a workout in itself

Soda intake is definitely a slippery slope. You can go from enjoying a modest 20 oz. bottle to having a permanent stash of cans in your fridge. Not only that, but you quit drinking water altogether because it "has no taste".

My suggestion: no soda at all. No diet, no nothing. It is possible to quit it and never look back. The best thing I ever did was become committed to drinking over a gallon of water per day. With this intake level, it satisfies my hydration needs but also keeps me away from other beverages that have more than 0 calories. When I first started my exercise regimen, I drank A&W Diet Root Beer, the best tasting diet soda around, but I realized that you're basically talking yourself into your old habits. It's like an alcoholic trying to go sober with non-alcoholic beer. Pretty soon you revert to the better and sweeter version.

Water is among the most powerful weapons in your arsenal in your battle against fat. Did you know that every glass you drink increases your metabolism by 30%? It burns calories the colder it gets. You could replace your soda with a gallon of ice water and with that alone could make a huge difference in your life. I laugh when I see these beverages in stores.. vitamin water, life water, muscle milk.. but the best one is free and we all have an unlimited supply. I get purified water in the gallons. $1.65 a gallon. If I feel like treating myself, I buy Smart Water.

It's a mind thing. You're psyching yourselves out by manifesting that need for something.

Haha, that reminds me of my brother who is in the Army. He works out and gotten in very good shape but he still can't beat the midsection flab and see his six pack. When I asked about his diet, he just said he drank Life Water (which has like 80 calories per bottle) and he claimed that 2-3 bottles of this would hydrate you for the entire day.

Look at you and your Jedi mind powers! Great job there! Mind over matter is so huge when it comes to fitness. So huge. It's also pretty big in the game of life itself.

I'm still working at it. Last week was disastrous with Easter and all, but being worrisome will only make it worse for you. Just have to get back on the saddle, forget it happened, and try to grow from that experience. You're only as strong as your weakest moment. I seem to benefit most from not cheating at all, and since I'm trying to get down to 220 or below by June, that's exactly what I need to do.

Right now I'm looking at supplements to help me hit it even harder in the gym, here's what I'm looking at now.

SciViation Xtend - Intra-workout drink, BCAA's, and I heard it tastes VERY good.

Controlled Labs Orange Triad - One of the best multi's out there along with Animal Pak.

Controlled Labs REDuction - CL's fat burner. It's different in that you have two pills: an AM one and a PM one. Can't wait to try this when my stash of Hydroxycut HC runs dry!

ON Whey Protein - Right now I have a bucket of whey I bought from Wal-Mart, but this is the standard stuff everyone needs.

ON Casein Protein - For before bedtime.

As for creatine.. we'll see about that when I'm 60 lbs. lighter! lol.

I have't drank soda ( other than when i get cocktails) in almost 3 years!! I just don't like how full it gets me, I can't finish my food!! I was a gym addict so always had water and quit frankly I enjoy water very much. I played baseball since i was 7 and played footbal in high school for 3 years, but my jr year I tore ligaments in my ankle playing baseball. After surgery I went almost 2 years without being able to stand on my feet for more than an hour because my ankel was giving out so i finally started my rehab and physicall therapy like the docter recommended after my surgery ( I was slacking on it ) So I went from playing sports since I was 7 to not being able to stand for long periods of time. And to make matters worse I met my Gf during that time and she was feeding me everything, Im talking about big meals for breakfast, lunch, before dinner, dinner and bed time meal So i gained almost 70 pounds in 3 years!!! But now that my ankle is better ( it will never be 100% again) I have been hitting the gym hard for almost 9 months now and have lost 40 pounds, would have lost more but I kept some on as muscle. I usually play basketball for an hour or 2 and then hit the wieghts.. Sorry for the blah blah blah just thought I share my story.

On a side note, going back to the gym after almost 3 years of eating, laying, doing "things" with my GF daily, was one of the hardest thing I have ever had to do. But I knew it was for the best and look at me now, 9 months in and feeling like my high school days again( with only one women this time )

Bringing back an older thread, but lately I've been running on my treadmill every day and I'm wondering if it's beneficial to take a day off every week or if it's fine to go daily. I run 3 miles in 30 minutes (30 seconds fast, 1 minute walk intervals), and then do a 7 minute, half-mile cool down each day. I've been running on my treadmill for several months but lately have been going more intensive. I know with lifting you should take days off for muscles to recover but it that necessary with running? I'm 27 and have dropped from around 250 pounds in November to about 218 pounds. I'd like to get around 205 by the end of the summer.

Listen to your body, it'll tell you if you need some time off. Personally, I find that variety is the key to success with working out. Running every day gets boring to me. Lifting every day gets boring to me. Mix things up, you'll find you get more fit that way.

Yeah, I enjoy running on the treadmill so I'm just wondering from a health standpoint. If I get sore I will take a day off. I like to have a theme of movies when I run on the treadmill. I just finished all 6 Batman movies on Blu-ray and now I'm watching the American Pie movies, although unfortunately they are only available on DVD .

I'm working out 5 days a week and jogging on the sixth day. The 7th is for rest.

Here's a sample week:

Mon - Arms/Shoulders - Abs
Tues - Biceps/Back - Plyometrics
Weds - Abs - Cardio
Thursday - Arms Shoulders - Plyometrics
Friday - Biceps/Back - Abs
Saturday - 1 hour jog/walk
Sunday - Rest!

On my third week now. Tons of energy now. Just need to cut back on my diet. Still eating a lot.

Drinking more water too.

If you get sore don't take too much time off. Like when I first worked out my abs/core, I was sore through my abs and hip flexers for the next two days but I worked through it on the second day and the pain went away. You need to workt hem out again after a day to rest so you can get them stretched out and moving.
