Cylindrical foam cutouts shaped slightly larger in diameter than the speaker ports. Thus they fit snugly inside the port. You can even make them yourself. Using port resistance other than air (foam, fiberglass, wool, etc) will lower the Q thus raising the f3 (low bass cutoff that's -3 db down). Some speakers have two or more ports. Thus various combinations of using port plugs exist for those speakers (like the C-C100 which has two ports).

So do I, just had a new wooden 6 ft privacy fence put in because the little pains in the a$$ kids next door kept coming over and taking my kids outdoor toys...and then they wanted to pull on the gate to try to come in and take them still after the fence was put in (where's the damn parents??!!) and the other side, they had an electric fence for their rotty?????
![]() But the info you do provide continuously for the Energys has me looking at them hard lately.... Last edited by Fors*; 07-09-2009 at 12:52 AM. |

In the living room I have 7 Def Tech speakers( purchased back in 2000 ) paired with a Sony STR-DA5300ES receiver. BP2006TL=fronts( built in subs ), C/L/R2300=center( built in sub ), BP2X=side surrounds, BP1.2X=rear surrounds. In the bedroom I have Def Tech speakers paired with a Marantz SR6003 receiver. Mythos Two=fronts, Mythos Three=center, Mythos Gem XL=surrounds, SuperCube III=subwoofer. The Energy speakers will be broken in( in living room ) using the Sony 5300ES receiver. I'll post comparisons & gallery photos( finally ) sometime in August. Will use Energy speakers with this gear. Waiting on Black Friday sales to grab a BDP with multi-ch outs. ![]() ![]() ED A2-300 subwoofer in living room( for size reference ) ![]() ![]() Bedroom ![]() ![]() |

OK, so I don't even really have the money for either of these but I'd still like to get some opinions on this.
I'm really itching to upgrade my rear surrounds and would prefer to stay with Energy as that's what I have right now. I'll only be staying with a 5.1 setup and the new rears I would like to get would go on the back wall (see photo gallery). I'd really like to get the RC-R surrounds but they are considerably more expensice than the other two options. Either the CR-10 surrounds or the C-R100 surrounds. I know some of you have the C-R100's and the RC-R's so I'm assuming you can chime in about your experience with them. So my question is, is it worth it to save for the RC-R's since I currently have the RC series now or would the other options be plenty. I have been quoted a price of $419 for a pair of RC-R's so I'm leaning towards those in the future. Either way I'll be saving up, so it's just a matter of saving for "longer". Also, will these be fine as rear surrounds? I know some prefer to use them as L/R surrounds in a 7.1 setup but I don't have the space for that now anyway. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

I don't know if I can get those RC-R's past my wife. I guess it will ultimately be her decision ![]() Do you find your C-100's to be to directional? That's really my only concern with the minis over the bipoles. |

the C-100s. Funny thing is I was watching Band of Brothers(part3 Carentan) on Blu last night and I have the speakers angled in towards the center of the living room not directly at the center seating position, so that if you are off on the far right you don't feel like you are not getting surround sound... anyways, being in the center seat (I have a 6.1 but only 5.1 was playing) I kept hearing audio directly behind me (directly behind me is the kitchen table) and I kept looking over at the receiver to see if I had it on a Matrixing mode or not, and I didn't. So to answer your questions, No they don't see very directional, in fact the imaging is fantastic on them. The imaging on the Energys is part of what I love about them so much. Also, the other day I was watching The Italian Job on FX HD, and they only play in 2 channel, and I kept getting really good sound everywhere and I though perhaps it was in surround sound but it turns out that it wasn't so maybe it the mirrored wall in the house of something but the imaging on all my speakers is fantastic. |

I couldn't agree more! The RC-R's are the perfect Energy surround because of their flexibility. You can set them up as either Bipole/Dipole or direct radiating surrounds. In a 5.1 setup, set them as bipole or dipole, depending on your room configuration, to get an expansive rear sound field. In a 7.1 setup, you can use two as sides (or surround L & R) set to bipole/dipole and the other two (surround backs) as direct radiating for a seamless side-to-rear sound field. I've seen them on eBay for as little as $200 each. Dead Dog: If you can get a pair for $419, jump on it. Well worth the wait and investment. I absolutely love mine. personally never heard them but they are supposed to be versitile for floorstanding and wall mounting. I would think that they have a similar sound to what all the other Energy speakers would have. Energy being a very solid brand I would guess to think that you would be pleased with the sound of them.
Did you check the 1st post to see if anyone has these speakers and you could ask them in a PM? |
