Diamond 73837, and Pioneer Elite SC-07 it's all in my gallery.
How do you think they compare to the direct firing JBL's you have in your theater?

yes it is supposed to make a well defined soundfield so that no one spot lacks imaging. In fact great imaging means that you cannot define exactly what speaker is giving you a particular sound.

when you are sitting listening to music in stereo, you do not want to know that the sound it coming from the right and left, you want to hear the singers voice come from the center speakers, even tho in reality NOTHING is coming from the center channel in stereo mode. this is proper imaging, it creates a very open soundstage and ISN'T definable.

When I watched The Strangers, there was a sound that I though came from right behind me, had me turning my head to see if someone was coming up from the kitchen, in fact, I replayed it and it came from my SL speaker, which is the furthest from where I was sitting....

Mirages design is supposed to maximise the imaging and openness of the soundstage. So that all sounds enter the room without pinpointing from where... just somewhere over on the right, or left, etc.

Wow very good job explaining things! And Squirrel too, squirrel those OMD-28s must be MONSTERS! I have the 15's and they are animals but those 28 must really be impressive. Pics of your present set up would nice!

now that i have owned 2 sets of above average quality speakers, i can say the Mirages "sound" better but they don't just absolutely blow the jbl's away but if i had seperate amps they may but mind you in my theater i am using a matching tower as a center channel which totally is the way to go for perfect balance and as a center channel haveng 2 eights in it it is amazing how much voice clarity it adds all speakers in the theater are bi-amped also, whereas the center and surrounds are bi-wired and only the towers are bi-amped two distinct sounds for sure but both very pleasing, the Mirages can be "crunk" a little better and sound better as you do so, whereas the jbl seemed to run you out of the room if too loud but then again they have different sensitivity which is why the Mirages could make use of a little more power, it took a little more tuning for the Mirages to sound just right but was well worth the effort, the Mirage couldn't have been used behind the screen the way the JBLs were and cost a whole lot more, both were blind buys but both were well worth what i paid, seeing as how i got them for a fraction of original retail, i am truly a bargain hunter, but with decent taste, i guess.

Have been fighting with myself about a possible upgrade to the OMD series, OMD 15's. Could someone please tell me that it is not worth upgrading 5 month old speakers and the difference in the OS3 and OMD series is not that significant. Is it? Great price on the OMD 15's right now but that would be crazy to upgrade, right?

I don't think its crazy to upgrade, I wanted to from the C-300s to the Energy RC-50s and LCR.... but the wife was not big on the idea...

If you can, do it.... Or at least go hear them first if you can.

Your present system looks great. Only you can say if the upgrade is worth it though. Last night I was playing my I-pod on my system and cranked up the 15's to a good volume, the hardest I have pushed them so far. Man I was very impressed with the way they handled the music, very clean and loud with plenty of headroom it seems. Felt like they could be pushed pretty hard and stay clean.

Default Mirage Subwoofer

Hi people .

I own a Mirage subwoofer ...Model ps-12-90 . I only paid 30.00 from ebay for it . It need the amp over hauled that it the driver was in good shape . So I sent it out to the mirage factory service center , in Holland , Michigan . But The cost was 250.00 to completely over haul the amp to like new .

This subwoofer is a older model from back in like 1994 . But the sound from it is fantastic . I only have it set to half of the volume dial .. man can it rock the house . I'm powering my subwoofer from a Marantz SR-18EX Receiver . If I play VHS, D-Theater , DVD , oR bLU-RAY . Its sound in excellent .. I cant complain at all . Its better then Pioneer vsx37 tx model , I use to own . But I'm happy with Mirage's subwoofers ..I think they build some fine equipment for Home video and audio as well . I see allot of people don't want to send something to have it fixed .. For the life of me I cant figure out why . My marantz and Mirage subwoofer were non working items from ebay .. thats were you can find some good things for very cheap . Its if you want to spend the time and money to have them fixed .

Default Mirage OMD 28

I am so happy to be in this wonderful site sharing our experiences about our Mirage Speakers.

I always been a big fan of Mirage speakers line, i have since many years the wonderful OM5 speakers and the M7-si that i use now as a back suround speakers, and since almost 2 years i was watching the OMD 28, and finaly buy this wonderful looking speakers since April.

I have an Mcintosh MA 6900 integrated amp to drive the OMD 28, i used to drive my OM5 with my integrated Mcintosh amp (200 watt/Channel) and i thought it will be good enough to drive my New OMD 28 !!!

During the Broke in Period (Recommended by Mirage 100 hours) before i make a serious listining, the sound was so dry, boxy, very thin, and not musical at all !!! so i put my cd player on repeating for more than 150 hours as per today, and the sound as expected became more warm, very articulated and soooooooo huge, open and what surprised me even more is the Details Level that omd 28 reveal so clearly, it was wonderful, and everything start to get better and better beside one important thing for me : Musicality....even after 150 hours my OMD 28 is still not as Musical as my old OM5 !!! it get little better since the day i receive them but still not as musical as i used to have with my wonferful OM 5 speakers.

Now what bother me great deal is the fact that my integrated Mcintosh MA 6900 amp is clipping when i try to push the sound level !!! Everybody was surprise about this issue but i had to live with it knowing that i will need to upgrade my amp and use a 2 Monoblok amp to drive My OMD 28.

Thoses speakers need POWER to shine !! so what can you suggest according to your experinces as a monoblok amp or anything else than Mcintosh ??

Thank you for reading my post and hope to read your reply soon.

Yep loving the OMD 15s more and more each day. They are fully broken in now and sound fantastic!!! I Bi amped the fronts and was listening to some CD last night and yes the OMD series loves power!!! The harder i pushed the 15's the better they sound. The Denon 2309 ci I'm running pushes them well in stereo. Really very nice sound and stayed that way as i pushed the volume up high. I'm sure a bigger separate amp would even make these babies sing sweeter LOL.

I pushed the volume up and kept waiting for these things to clip but nothing, just clean, detailed, well imaged sound!! It is amazing since the drivers are relatively small at 5.5" but not surprised cause the little 2.75 drivers in my old Nanostats that I sold had huge sound for their size.

Good evening, how do feel about your 3 channel amp for your front sound field? I know it would drive the 15's without any problem but did you see an increase in performance form your OS3'3s?Thanks BZB

Nice to find this thread, I am the VERY happy owner of a pair of M-3si's. I listed everything in my sig. I would like to get a Mirage center, probably the M-Csi, but the Athena I am using blends fairly well. It was made by the same Company. Here are some pictures of the "Man Cave" aka the family room. The Rack pix is a bit old, I replaced the Yamaha rec. with Lex preamp and added a Marantz MA-500 mono amp for the center chan.

One thing that is a bit of a draw back using the M-3si's in a surround sound set up is that they have such a large presence that they tend to overwhelm the other spks, even though I use a SPL meter to calibrate the system. I was thinking of maybe bringing their level down about 2-3 dB relative to the other spks. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Thanks,
Brad
