I'm now looking at having this repaired but am wondering if I should just get a new receiver instead of paying to repair this one...
anyone else go through this?
I had the exact same issue with my x2200w and my lg oled b7 and I had a LG guy come out and they just said it’s my receiver that is the issue, even though it happened with an only as well. No one can tell me what the issue is. For now I just ran everything to the tv and an optical to the receiver. Very frustrating

Quick question from a long-time Elite users and now a new Denon owner...

I have the x6400 and am a little confused as to the output on auto, direct or pure direct modes when playing a BD or UHD. I want exactly what the disc is outputting (Atmos, DTSX, DTSMA, TrueHD), no additional processing added(Neural, etc..) and I want my Audyssey settings (levels, distances, crossover, etc) to stay intact. I assume and have been using Direct, or is this incorrect? THX

I own the x2400h which I think is a similar model. When the movie starts, press the green button on the remote and choose whatever sound track the movie is playing and the receiver from then on will remember to only play what it's being fed. When I first hooked it up it defaulted to DTS X Neural and I had to physically change it to DTS MA and now it only plays whats on the disk. I think you have to do it for both DTS and Dolby.

After playing several discs, Direct or Pure Direct is the only way to get what is on the disc without any processing. Seems my Audyssey settings are also kept, but again, no additional processing was applied. The green button actually applies processing on my x6400h, so I do not use that. I can also turn a track into Aura 3D from the green button, which is interesting on broadcast tv. For discs, Direct seems to be correct, unless you want nothing to appear on the receivers display, then Pure Direct gives you the same thing.

It's my understanding that direct bypasses all speaker distances and speaker trim levels and just outputs what's on the disk (with audyssey). Pure direct does the same but shuts off all other functions in the avr that aren't being used. Pressing the green button and choosing the soundtrack on the disc (not DTS HD MSTR + dolby or whatever just DTS HD MSTR) will output what's on the disc with the distances and trim levels applied. In my opinion, the latter is the best sounding option with movies but pure direct is the best option for 2 channel music.

Funny, I have the 3200W and yesterday I received an update as well that it took like 18 minutes to complete. I was wondering this morning what is the firmware for. I did some research and find out in the Denon site that my model as well as yours, were due for a firmware in the Summer 2018. In the site say that the upgrade is to make it compatible with Dolby Vision and HDL.

Did you try Dolby Vision pass-through yet?

Keep me updated. As of right now, I have my Dolby Vision player connected directly to my Oled TV because my Denon was not Dolby Vision-ready. But if this new firmware enabled Dolby Vision I could now connect player directly to receiver instead.

Hi Everyone,

New S940H owner here (coming from an older 1712).

The one thing I can't figure out is how to turn off dynamic volume. When I initially ran audyssey, it asked if I wanted it on, to which I said "yes". However, it's a little too rowdy for my building and I need to turn it off. I can't find it anywhere in the menus...do any of you have any insight?

On my old 1712, the option to turn dynamic off was right in the menus and easy to find.

Also...did anyone with new 2018 models get new firmware today? I got home from work and turned it on, it promted me for for an update and said it should take 10 mins then automatically turn back on, and it's been over an hour now. Getting a little worried...

I also checked Denon's website and there were no firmware notes.

TIA!

Here’s the thing I figured out - (what I actually meant was dynamic EQ) - if you mess with speaker settings at all, audussey disables itself and those menu options gray out.

I received the OLED TV on June 20, however I haven't play with the connections as of yet. My Oppo 203 is also connected to the TV, I was able to see the Dolby Vision logo in my TV, when we watched a show from Netflix. However what the difference of connecting the player to the receiver and then to the TV? I thought that is better directly from the Oppo to the TV, what's the difference? It makes the picture better?

If Denon has Dolby Vision pass-through you are better off connecting Oppo to Denon and Denon to TV

I have a question for those who have Dolby Atmos receivers. I've purchased a Denon X4400H a month ago and I returned it because, the receiver was upscaling 5.1 DTS and Dolby soundtracks to Dolby Atmos, which I didn't want. My settings and the speaker configuration were correct but to no avail. The receiver was still outputting Dolby Atmos when a 5.1 soundtrack was playing. I wanted the receiver to output the audio that's encoded on the Blu-ray disc, not upscaling everything to Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. My question is: Do all Dolby Atmos receiver upscale all soundtracks to Dolby Atmos regardless of its audio and speaker setup?

No. Dolby Atmos only when the content you are playing is encoded in Dolby Atmos.

What do you think I did wrong, was it the setting, or the receiver could've been defected because, I had to manually select Dolby TrueHD or DTS 5.1 MA for it to play in 5.1. I tried everything.

It's too late for an exchange because I've already returned it and received a refund. It's past the retailer's return/exchange window policy for an exchange. I would have to rebuy it again.
