I think I'm going to grab Double Life of Veronique region free blu-ray. It's only about $15 shipped and is backed by an excellent Pro-B review!

The color palettes on the blu-ray look incredible.

Not to mention that "Double Life of Veronique" is an excellent film as well aside from the PQ.

Excellent price for that BD release. If anyone needs a currency converter, here you go. I tend to use it a lot when purchasing from Amazon UK or Eureka.

Curious...how many people are going after every region free Artificial Eye BD release? I know a few of you have been doing it with MoC releases.

I think Google Chrome does currency conversion as well as text conversion. It's a great tool for international shopping.

Ah, I thought maybe you had gotten lucky with B&N, saves me from driving over at lunch and tearing through their stacks.

Were you able to pre-order at the 50% off?

I have watched it twice since buying it.... I didn't have the Criterion DVD to compare it to, but the Blu-ray certainly looks fantastic (and it's a great film too)

I'm anxious to see it again because the Criterion DVD was darn good.

That only means you didnt like it as much as the other viewer.
Remember its how you see it. You dont need to agree that any movie is a masterpiece nor classic, nor favorite. You are the buyer and it just has to please you.

I just like the quality they put in there blu's and they have allot of "Beautiful films"

Just as an example the Curious Case of Benjamin Button vs. Forrest Gump. While people like both films, Forrest Gump has a upper hand because of the mixed entertainment. While Benjamin Button touches the more emotional side. Both stories are quite similar just minor differences. I like BB because of how beautiful the movie is. This movie ultimately lead me to purchasing Criterion Movies.

Think I'm gonna watch this next week, when wife is out of town. Been meaning to for a long time.

Not much love here (not you kndy in particular, just in general) for the BRD Trilogy... a great set. (I know, at least partly it's a so many choices, so little money thing. ) Hope it gets blu-ed one of these days.

I would argue that Forrest Gump is a much more interesting character than Benjamin Button. BB pretty much only has his disability going for him (can't believe I would ever say that about anyone). Beautiful cinematography though, can't argue that BB is great visually.

Man, having a blu ray addiction sucks. Doubling that with Criterion is lethal.
Picked up Playtime on my way into work. That's 11 blus and 13 total movies I've picked up during this sale. My wallet needs this to end.

Used the $5 coupon again.

If you count sets, I'm at 37 Criterions, and 10 'others' from B&N during this sale.....

"Overrated" is in the eye of the beholder. Different people have different tastes. I loved both those movies and IMO thought they were much better then many of the predictable movies that are made today. Most of which are sequels, reboots, rehashes etc. Very little originality. Nothing wrong with most of those popcorn movies its just a lot of classics offered by Criterion have something different to offer. Variety and choice are always nice things to have. Seventh Seal has always been one of my favorite movies so I don't consider it overrated.

I like Criterion because they provide me with the opportunity to experience movies that normally I wouldn't have been subjected to. And in most cases many of them turn out to be some of my favorite movies. If they weren't around many great films would never see a DVD/Bluray release.

I'm not sure about that.... however, the "likelihood" that films such as "The Leopard" or "Everlasting Moments" receiving a good transfer and containing a lot of supplemental material, is greatly decreased.......

Suppose Criterion had the rights to "The General" they would have released it, it probably would have looked great, contained extras etc.....

Instead, Kino has the rights to it, and they did release it.... and it turns out that it had a great transfer..... so nothing lost really.....

On the other hand, Films like "Bird with the Crystal Plumage" get a "decent" release (this one handled by Blue-Underground) which I happen to own, and think looks 'fine' but there is certainly room for improvement..... Criterion would have devoted the same effort they devote to all their releases, but the trade-off is in the fact that you can get the film right now for under $10, if Criterion released it, that would never happen, but the important thing is THE FILM WAS RELEASED...... But like I said, looking at the current Criterion releases, there aren't many you would say would be unlikely to be released eventually, had Criterion not handled them.... Perhaps "By Brakhage" wouldn't come out due to its' nature, but Charade, The 400 Blows, and pretty much anything by a "known" director, would likely get released by some other studio eventually...... Heck, the titles going OOP quickly get scooped up by other studios and prepared for release....... that's pretty telling right there.

What does all this mean in the end..?...?..

no really.... what does it mean?

Ya I think they do I got mine up here in Canada and it had one but it's an amazing flick loved it!

I ordered "The Leopard" on Blu-ray today from B&N because even with shipping to Canada it was only $32, while from Criterion it would have cost me $40 and instore here its at least 39.99 if not more.
