OMGOSH! I cannot believe i just ordered two XV15!!!

I really didn't need them seeing i was happy with my current subs (some old school dual JBL SP120ii in my 3000cu/ft dedicated room), I had them for 7 to 8 years, never have they failed me, they really hit hard enough to feel the vibration, but i think they may lack of some serious dBs in the much lower Hz area. When i do 15Hz - 18Hz tone tests they distort, at 20hz they seem to do decent, but i wonder if the XV15 will give out more dB enough to notice.

Tom was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions between quick email exchanges.

I guess i really needed to know what i was missing out on the low Hz side of things. Oh well a mans got to do what a mans got to do to satisfy himself

I'm scared, excited, and don't know what to expect. I am really hoping not to use the 30 day return (truth be told this eases my mind quite a bit) and have a good set of subs for the next 8 - 10 years.

Congratulations, post some photo's and impressions when you're ready.
Your new subs should perform great in that nice Home Theater.

Fear not my friend, they will stay right at home where they belong. The XS30 will be placed right behind my couch (back of the room). Based on my multiple e-mails with Tom at PSA, they should complement each other pretty well (Ultras + XS30).

I cannot wait to hear / feel them playing together at home........

Ported and sealed together? I thought that was a bad mix. Looking forward to how they compare and work together. Congrats!

Thanks man!

To be honest with you, that was the main reason I touched base with Tom V. at PSA. I wasn't sure as you about that mix. Tom and I exchanged a good amount of e-mails validating this scenario to be certain this combination will work (my subs, my room, my gear, etc).

So, I feel very confident the end result will be really positive.

But, I'll be able to confirm that in a couple of weeks (I hope!!!).

It has arrived

I had to tell a relative to stay over at my place between certain hours and sit by the door as these things require FedEx signature and i don't have a pick up truck to pick them up in the event i miss the package.

It is now going to be a long day at work just day-dreaming the destruction these will cause

(Phone Text picture i received while at work)

Please note the image below is simply for looks/photoshoot. The placement of these subs are currently TBD.

I will only be using the two PSA as those are MORE than enough to literally rattle the all 3 stories of this house. Plus when testing with the JBLs it seemed as though the PSAs were eating them alive.

It is now time for some Sub Crawling. Stacking them in the corner feels like death on the second row of my HT, as those seats are on risers and a foot away from the wall. The 1st row is smack in the middle of the room. I would love to spread them out to the front corners, unfortunately my room is oddly designed.......

IMAGE from 2008

As you can plainly see spreading them in front of the room doesn't work (it can only go on the corner.

Neither does placing them on opposite corners of the room because the rear corners have doors right in the way.

Ironically, (for the JBLs anyway) the best place for an even spread of subs were in the middle of the side walls. Oddly when i did that with these PSAs it didn't feel any louder than the JBLs, even at max gain. (While up front it made a HUGE! difference that of the JBLs.) I'll try to re-calibrate my system and play with the phase settings on the PSA as these seem to have a 0 between 180 while the JBLs were one or the other.

My JBLs also rattled most of the house (not as powerful as the PSAs but enough to fill a 3000cu/ft room); however, my main goal with the PSA subs were to get good dB <25Hz as the JBLs just distorted anything below 30Hz.

Anyways, I'll keep y'all up to date when i do more testing tomorrow.

It is now 12:30AM est (a few hours later from my original post) and i finally found the best spots for the PSAs (i think ). I sacrificed the closet door. So now when i need to go in there (almost never) i just tilt the sub forwards to open door ... Both are on opposite corners of the room. I popped in War of the Worlds (dts DVD) and the bass was so much that i actually thought people miles away would hear me. I then popped in Star Wars 3 (the intro right after the beginning credits) when that space battleship slowly zooms by all you hear is bass. I actually needed to put some thin weather stripping around my door to stop the darn thing from shaking. The ceiling lamp above me probably has to go seeing that it rattles like crazy.

Among testing 20Hz and above sound amazing. The sub was capable in playing the 17-19Hz i played (using old school Audiophile CD tester), definitely felt the waves, at 16Hz there was a noticeable port noise, but during movies this would be masked. 15Hz or below i honestly couldn't hear or feel anything. Regardless it plays 4 times as loud as my previous JBLs and plays much lower notes cleaner.

I am a happy customer and now part of the PSA family. Also lots of thanks to Tom for helping me out.

Door treatment. The vibrations finally STOPPED, now to figure out what to do with the above lamp
