Are those different than Exorcist 3? I saw Exorcist 3. It was the one with George C. Scott instead of Richard Burton or Max von Sydow. I suppose if they kept going down the line of old man actors from Ed Asner to Art Carney, by Exorcist 7 or 8 they would have gotten around to Willie Nelson or Bob Newhart.

Legion is Exorcist 3.

I'd have to disagree except for the scene with Nurse X attacking Kinderman's daughter. Man, I hate that scene. So cheesy and out of place.

The 40th Anniversary edition of the Exorcist is on sale at Amazon today and I'm trying to decide if I want to get it or wait for the Complete Anthology edition to go on sale. What I'm wanting to know is if the Complete Anthology has an eco-case (Those crappy ones with the cutouts so that damaging the sleeve becomes very easy) or if it's a regular case. Because it holds 6 discs it's not one I can easily replace.

It's a nice regular case, not an eco case thank god.

OK, thanks. Gonna wait then. The book and special features disc you get with the 40th Anniversary edition are nice but it seems like more value to me to get all the sequels included, even if they aren't very good.

I have all the releases on blu-ray so far. The 2010 digibook, the 2013 40th anniversary, and now the anthology set. I'm glad all the sequels/prequels are on blu now. 2 is not great but, I like to watch occasionally, 3 is definitely my favorite after the original, and the prequels, well, I like certain aspects of each film.

Even though The Exorcist III is a sequel, you can't compare it to the original movie because, they're different movies.

Brad Dourf is excellent as he always is, and George C. Scott is OK (not his best performance by any stretch though). But just about everyone else in the film acted like they were in a third grade play. That nurse and doctor were HORRIBLE. Were they supposed to be comic relief or something? The script was jam packed with references and exposition in dialogue. Every character spoke in the same sort of voice. The whole first half of the movie was like one monologue after another. It was like it was written by a first year film student.

The direction was completely devoid of style. The original Exorcist had very sophisticated sound effects. This one just had some sort of low frequency fart whenever something scary happened. The visuals were a joke... that dream sequence in the Heaven waiting room made Exoricist 2's dream sequences look like Citizen Kane. A CAMEO OF FABIO AS AN ANGEL?!?! Good lord that was a bad movie. They must have spent their entire budget on G. C. Scott and then had to shoot the whole film in one take to make up the difference. The quintessential cash in movie.
I completely disagree with everything said here. Everyone has their own opinion but this is a very harsh review of a very stylish, effective film.

Just out of curiosity, have all three of these releases contained the same 2 discs for the original film?

I keep hoping that some day, they'll remove that stupid face-morph on Damien that's been in the "original" version since 1998.

Why are you referring to The Exorcist III as Legion ? That's not the film's title and it's confusing for those who aren't familiar with the film's production history. When they find the director's cut of the film, release it and title it Legion as originally intended, then it will make sense to call it that. Until then the version we all know is called The Exorcist III.

In the trailer its called "The Exorcist III: Legion" they probably drop it just before it was released in theaters.....the movie is based on the book "Legion"

I know that it's based on the book, I've read Legion. Trailers are released long before films are finished and they often contain all sorts of stuff which doesn't represent the finished film, including the wrong title. Since the film has been released, its title has always just been The Exorcist III. To refer to it as Legion is incorrect, especially as the film became a bastardisation of the novel when the studio insisted on adding all the exorcist material, so they could call it The Exorcist III.

I see the VUDU service has Exorcist II: The Heretic available to stream/download. If anyone wants to pony up, it would be interesting to know whether it's sourced from the same transfer, or--possibly--a newer one than used for the current Blu-ray.

I will henceforth always refer to the theatrical cut of Blatty's film as 'Exorcist III' - and all will be right with the world again.
