No it says any leftover inventory can be sold after preorders have been set aside, so if 4 people. preorder and the store got 5 they can sell one.

I think it depends on the employees at the store. My store is not a huge store by any means but i seem to never have problems with getting a steelbook. Usually on day of release i can walk right in and pick up a steel. I would always pre order for store pickup and then be able to grab the best one off the shelf before i went to Customer Service for the pickup.

With GotG that changed cause when i went to the store around 11am, they were all sold out. Luckily the reserved copy was flawless.

Today i didn't get to go to the store until just a bit ago around 2. All copies on all spots of displays for the steel were gone. Picked up my steel at customer service. Luckily copy is mint. The sales guy said they only got about 8 but they always do store pickups first on release day so people don't get screwed.

Or they can set none aside, and let the customers have a free-for-all when the doors open. Every store seems to be YMMV today.

Even worse, they can't even process with the pre-order card receipt and have to do either an exchange or return and repurchase.
what a joke that they don't bother to even set aside items for customers, been like this for awhile too. I didn't mind getting the regular edition, but I don't trust their employees to be reliable for shit.

Oh yes...the limited stock was true then.
Again, my store had 6. All were for preorders. Like 4 people came in looking for them and were all pissy when they didn't get it.

Worried about mine... I received my email yesterday saying it was ready for pick up today. Will stop by sometime today to see. If they sold mine, I will be pissed. That has never happened to me at my Best Buy store so I'm not to worry about it. If they did and they inform me that they sold it or they didn't get it and they try doing that $10 off the regular version, I'll ask them to put it on the 3D version instead because that was my main want as it was a while back but I just can't say no to a nice steelbook :-D

Not that I wouldn't have settled if I had no other option, but this is one of those Steels that is infinitely better than the normal release. To me anyway. The standard is just so bland.
Yeah, a steel is usually better, I agree. I'm just waiting for a better steel.

The 3D combo pack will have to do until then. If the BBY steel included 3D, I would've wanted one for sure.

Here was my deal:

I had it pre-ordered w/ the card, but hearing all these stories of stores not putting any aside for pre-orders, I made sure to get there when they opened (10:00), grabbed a copy as I walked in (they had about 5 in the front, and about 5 more in the blu-ray section), then took that to the pick-up counter. Sure enough, they didn't set any aside, and they just rang up the copy I had grabbed for myself as being picked up. There were still a few copies left when I left the store, but I'm sure they sold out by 10:30.

So is there even a single person who did an in-store pre-order with the card and had their store actually set one aside for them?

Well, I did preorder mine and I STILL didn't get it. So really, even preordering only increased the odds of getting it by a very slight margin.

My store had only five on the floor, I think there may have been one or two more, but I got mine so… I do feel kind of sorry for those true hardcore fans who were wanting this though. Such is the case with retailer exclusives.

I should have an extra, I will do a giveaway if it's not damaged. Hopefully neoz will leave it in the Steelbook section for everyone to see.

Good lord, $10??? Are they serious???

I wasn't even offered that choice so I got a refund. I got there before the email went out I guess.

They had a hard time doing the receipt and processing the refund.

Nope. The pre order cards don't work man. I tried looking up pre orders and the only ones that popped up were online pre orders. What's sad is that corporate won't feel the burn of it... it'll be customer service agents and managers.

That was the deciding factor for me. Had the original with slip had a cool cover, I might not have bothered but it's way to bland and boring for such an exciting movie.

The funny thing is I didn't even really get into Steels until last year. I still don't like all of them. The upcoming AoU for example is one I will definitely go for the slip version, but every now and again you come across a release where the Steelbook features better art than the standard cardboard slipped Amaray case. This is one. Also I don't have 3D so for this it's not a deal for me. I'll get the 3D release combo for AoE because that will be the only one with a slip on it.

Fairfield, CA store claimed they received zero copies. I preordered 2 on the 17th in store (one for me one for my brother). Left with 2 regular copies and 2 10 dollar gift cards. Best Buy is garbage.

I got the $10 gift card and returned my preorder because they didnt have it in stock. I'll wait until black friday. not paying $20 for standard version.

Well, another kick in the teeth is that that 2D slip's image is actually from one of the film's posters. One of the lesser ones for sure.
