Absolutely. It came out of nowhere and didn't seem to match the muted light of the rest of the film. It took me out of the moment.

Watched this again today.

I swear this movie keeps getting better with each viewing. I also appreciate the UHD picture quality much more now, can't believe I was initially disappointed with how this looked.

Next time I watch this it will be the excellent 3D version again.

Started watching this tonight and was really annoyed by black levels, I felt like I was back to watching on my 2008 LCD, they were that elevated.

Oppo 203 through to LG OLED, brightness set to 50 on TV. Changing brightness to 49 gives me perfect blacks but crushes the picture horribly.

In this instance is it artistic intent of the film makers? I don't mind so much if that is the case, what bugs me is the thought that something is off with my settings/gear.

I would say director's intent. And this is not the only movie of late which has milky blacks because of that.

Better change that brightness setting back to 50 and just deal with it I think. Otherwise you'll be doing this more often...

I don't like the look of elevated blacks either but as long as it looks like it is supposed to, I'm totally fine with it.

I swear this movie keeps getting better with each viewing. I also appreciate the UHD picture quality much more now, can't believe I was initially disappointed with how this looked.

Next time I watch this it will be the excellent 3D version again.
3D on this one is exceptional. Its almost groundbreaking. Seeing it flat does not justify what this movie is. A visual feast for your eyes. The scene in the water is just jawdropping with the jellyfish so far out the screen you feel you can touch them

Thanks for clarifying, it is good to know that is the way it was intended.

I know.

I also own the 3D Blu-ray as well, great looking 3D indeed!

You know a disc is bad when even an OLED doesn't show good blacks. I don't care if it's intended to look that way. It still looks terrible. I sure don't remember it looking this way in the theater.

You do know this was made for projection and not an OLED right?

I don't think this is a top-tier disc or anything, but I rewatched it last week and I was a lot happier with the PQ this time around on my E8 than I was when I first watched it on my B6. I didn't think the raised blacks were too egregious. In fact, I thought the nighttime scenes were the highlight of the disc, especially the boat scene around the 1-hour mark. Beautiful looking scene.

It thrives on "this" format.

The 4K is great I have the Best Buy Steelbook.

But the IMAX 3D showing blew minds, it destroys any Marvel production visually. GoTG 2 IMAX 3D was a huge letdown for me. Doctor Strange 3D was average.

Interesting. Too bad I never got to see Ghost in the Shell in 3D theatrically. I do own the 3D blu ray, but haven't watched it yet.
What's your opinion on Ghost in the Shell versus Doctor Strange and GoTG 2 at home on 3D blu ray?

Agreed. The GitS IMAX 3D is still the best 3D Experience I've ever had, even over Avatar. It was god damn spectacular. I had to go twice.

I only watched them in the theaters. I have the 4K's BB Steelbooks of GiTS and GoTG 2.

A 2160p 3D of GiTS would be nice someday, along with said projector.
