Only the streaming service Disney+ has the IMAX enhanced 2D version of this and other movies to allude people to subscribe it.

Watched this last night. Another excellent Marvel film. Thought all the characters were well crafted, good story and some fantastic action (especially the fight on the bus).
Great 3D again. Amazing Marvel masters 3D, and they make it so hard to get these discs. Oh well I'll keep buying them from Japan as long as they keep making them. I will admit the constantly having to switch to subtitles was distracting, so I am going to rewatch tonight with the subtitles on. Also received Eternals, so I'll save that one for next weekend. |

It’s kind of ironic that nowadays IMAX have a terrible rep with home cinema enthusiasts. They used to be responsible for cool cinema screens and some fun expanded ratios and now they are single handedly locking potentially definitive editions of mammoth movies onto bit starved streaming services. The real irony is that they’ve somehow effectively cornered the market on big budget movies being in 16:9 format because that’s usually what the IMAX versions for home cinema end up being. Completely arbitrary and annoying circumstances really. The IMAX label just irritates me more than not now, like how No Way Home is only available to watch in IMAX if you have a Sony Bravia TV, which is about as horrible of a restriction as the old Avatar 3D Blu-ray exclusivity nonsense.

When I read your post even I was a little surprised that they would do this. But on further checking, they are using this feature to sell their new top tier TVs. I shouldn't have been surprised that Sony does Sony things. Last edited by cdx47; 04-04-2022 at 05:39 AM. |

Indeed. Honestly, I can't even make sense of it from a business standpoint. A lot has been discussed on these forums of the profitability of 3D discs for studios and their motivation to bother with them, but are we really supposed to believe that the sales they might get from locking NWH IMAX onto their top tier TVs would be in any way notable? Who is letting a single movie influence their TV buying decisions, in the already fairly small high end TV market? I have a hard time believing it would be enough to be significant, or how you would even measure that, but what it does do is sour the 99% of people who don't have a Bravia TV on your brand.

Finally got around to watching this. Got to say, I really enjoyed the movie. And gee it was great having Trevor back in the MCU. Got a lot of laughs from him here and his prior showing.
And the 3D was really great, and enhanced a lot of it, especially the scaffolding. My one complaint on the story was same as Abrams Star Trek. Starting off with someone being a jerk with someone's car... I really wish in Star Trek they'd left that scene in that explained why... But in Shang-Chi it started me off not liking Akwafina's character. I warmed to her, but I thought it's bit of a bad call. |

I half wonder if the scene of "Shaun" and Katy joyriding in the car actually happened, because there was an impossibly low amount of traffic in San Fran during it. Maybe it was a Walter Mitty-ish daydream? The overall message of this film reminds me of that brouhaha over Chinese athletes in America deciding to compete for China in the Olympics, because the characters in the film, especially Katy, became happier once they stopped rejecting, and started embracing, their status as Chinese. |
