Curious, has anyone purchased a film from this company: Oscilloscope Laboratories and how are their releases?

But if you have the money, you want $3,000 worth of films to experience in your $3,000 set-up. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on home theater unless I was actually going to enjoy the hell out of it, and that enjoyment includes buying the movies to watch (in addition to renting/borrowing others).

When I (literally) dipped into my savings to get a Kuro and this, my first surround sound system (in my signature), I decided that I no longer wanted to be hampered by superior import editions, so I also shelled out for a multiregion player. All told I've spent maybe $6,000 on equipment, furniture and installations relevant to my home theater, and that money would be wasted in a sense if I didn't invest the same time and money (as much as I'm able) on buying, renting and watching movies. It's the same principle as buying a fancy new car: if you can buy the car, then you should also want to drive it.

If i had that kind of dough to throw around I'd be looking at obtaining (either via rent or purchase) 35 mm prints

That's the company owned by Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys, right?

I think so, I have "No-Impact Man" from them, good transfer, no issues.

I know people who do this but it's obtaining the prints for their major film festivals. It's very expensive and the stress they go through is something I can't fathom for myself. They do it for the love of cinema, but from obtaining those films but having to create those relationships by traveling all around the world to establish those relationships.

But yes, it would be ideal to watch them in the theater. There are also the hardcore silent film fans who really go all out and buying the reels from eBay, not knowing if they will work and sometimes they have some funky smell and things inside them and these reels may be nitrate and hazardous but they love collecting them.

I think its speculation from fans. We haven't even received our press releases for November yet.. We should find out on the 16th.

I believe so. I know Yauch is a big Criterion fan, and there are good number of followers on the FB site, but I have not purchased from Oscillscope yet. I'm guessing they are numbered like Criterion as well. Covers look cool and it's look like they went Blu-ray for several titles.

I watched Contempt for the first time the other night. Does anybody have any thoughts on
[Show spoiler]the car accident
? It seemed really out of place and tacked on to me. Other than that I really enjoyed it.

He has about 3-4 films that have
[Show spoiler]"out of place" car accidents
in his New Wave era. Though to Godard and others who want to interpet them, they are not out of place. Again though, this one was a downfall type thing so I think it was more for the story than others he has in his films.

I'm not one to "interpet" Godard films. Those are snobs. I just think they are fun as hell. Well, I do look into them, but not much as a critic or snob. Godard's head is for Godard only IMO. I make guesses and read books, but don't act like I "KNOW" what he wanted to say in his films.

Thanks, this was only the second Godard movie I've seen (Breathless) so I'm still testing the waters and I don't have a solid base of knowledge of his work.

No big deal dude. Actually, if I ever had to rank Godard films in order of favs, Contempt would prob be at the bottom. Which isn't a knock of it, but more of you got alot of good stuff to see.

I really don't see the problem. Some people I know honestly don't seem to notice much less care the difference between a $200 home entertainment system and one that costs $5,000. For those types it's just as well they spend the money on movies rather than upgrading to some $3K speakers or $1K receiver. There are worse things people could spend their money on than this sort of thing, like drugs.

Yeah I think people are selling it on Amazon for $1,000. Crazy. Hopefully a cheaper book comes out some day.

Also, if anyone is interested, I believe some of his photos are in this fairly new book:
