The brink version of basement used the same master but used DNR to clean up the splotches and other issues and overall was more pleasing, unfortunately marred by a stuttering encoding error thst spoiled the release.
Digital noise reduction wouldn't have fixed a color issue. Vinegar syndromes source for their release of blood beat was also pretty moldy, but they restored it while keeping grain completely intact. DNR us just the cheaper easier way to handle it.

Agreed. Ruined and Bill take an L here. DF was the retailer who payed cash upfront .

Sure DNR tools could do that, at least partially. The splotches were not a really color issue. If you go frame by frame you can see it is a series of rapidly moving spots on the film again probably print damage from mold.

Using a heavier DNR dust and scratch filter would likely remove a good deal of the spots or at least severely reduce their intensity. It appears this is what they did on the brink release. There are tradeoffs to using DNR but if the choice is do nothing or use DNR on severe print damage, DNR is sometimes a better choice. Doing more expensive resto is sometimes just not a budgetary option.

Each title has its own set of different costs and technical issues so you cant take what a label did with one title and assume it will work for a totally different film with a totally different set of circumstances.

The Carrier CR is a crap release...a coaster and close to a scam imo. Specially after The Demon and Banana Man realized that the TC was screwed up and went with the DC “looks awesome” narrative...”its going to be one a collector’s because it’s defective and Bill placed it OOP”. I support and buy a lot of stuff from those guys but I am happy that this has been exposed for what it is. Garbage.

I wonder why DF dosent post in FB that it’s been offered NEW for $19.99 Buy it now with $4.00 shipping. It’s been there for days and no suckers are bitting. Hopefully the hundreds of Carrier coasters Bill has stashed away will rot unsold. Perhaps next time, those two will be more forthcoming with loyal customers? Doubt it.

The big problem I see is the escalation of commitment on a flawed narrative. Ruined stays mum on the subject...so will I. He brings it up, I’ll rebut it...I’ll do it every instance Ruined chooses to parrot the narrative from DF and Bill on this release .

The top executives from those labels need to that it’s not ok and that not all their customers are dumb or complicit by defense of the indefensible.

The solution is easy, Ruined stops posting the propaganda spewed by DF on the Carrier BD and I’ll stop stating FACTS and rebutting him . Maybe Banana Man will learn not to turn the DNR full blast? Looks like John Lyons schooled DF and CR on the proper way to restore a title?!

Unless you know the condition of the workprint being used and the budget for the release, there is no way to claim your argument is more factual than mine.

I am simply stating given the releases' possible budgetary contraints and severely damaged master automated DNR may have been the best option, as opposed to doing nothing and seeing a snowstorm.

You have repeated whatever DF comes up with from day one..not just on the Carrier but on THTV and everything else. To include the more ridiculous statement about a defective and flat out bad release becoming some sort of valuable collectible because Code Red placed it “OOP” . As if CR will destroy the discs or do anything other than to unload them on customers at a future date.

That’s your prerogative but don’t ask others to legitimize it or accept it. That’s all...lets both move on. Don’t plug anymore crap about The Carrier so I don’t have to post more crap in response. Let’s give other people a chance to discuss it.

Might I suggest that perhaps banning ruined would be a better solution?

Finally made a deal with Satan and placed an order through Dark Force directly. Went ahead and picked up The Black Gestapo, Sweet Sixteen, and The People Who Own the Dark. Look forward to seeing if their shipping is as fast as people say it is

Man you guys take everything so serious around here and then do so much smack talking in the safety of the internet but not one would ever dare talk to us that way in person. Now that's one statement we all know to be an unarguable fact.

Here's the thing Blu Titan. both Code Red and Dark Force use one of the best and most respected technicians at the biggest and best lab in Los Angles and these guys work are not only highly respected throughout the industry but are booked solid by all the major studios non-stop. If you showed THE CARRIER restored director's cut to a lay person and told them it was garbage quality they would look at you like you had two heads. I totally agreed with Ruined opinion on the quality and I'm not saying your opinion is wrong because you are also entitled to feel the way you do. Everybody around here has there own nit picking way of interpreting what they feel is a good restoration and that can come in many different forms. But I can tell you one thing nobody schooled DF and CR and certainly not Fotokem's enormously qualified technicians.

Wrong again.

Why wouldn't we dare talk to you like that in person. Nobody has been rude. Are you threatening us with violence if we were to say this stuff in person? How old are you?

Isn't that precisely what you are doing?

Talking smack on the internet?

Maybe we're joking too?

Or maybe that release is just a joke and you can't take it?

And is that who you REALLY want to appeal to, the "lay person"???

Shouldn't you want to be the best label?

Wouldn't you like to appeal to hardcore cinephiles that know the difference between junk and a high quality product?

It seems to me anyone with a true passion for film and someone that owns a label would want that.

Where "good enough", just isn't.

And maybe I'm wrong, but, It seems like you're more concerned with making a quick buck from people with a passive interest in cinema than appealing to what most cult labels cater to: Hardcore Cult Film fans.

your audience here isn't exactly the laypeople, your highness

this is a group of people dedicated enough to cult cinema that they not only spend vast amounts of collective income on these releases, but watch and discuss them with like minded people. catering to imagined people who will probably never watch your releases (because i imagine the "layperson" you conjure up would do their movie buying on Amazon or big box retailers) is not going to do you much good in terms of release quality
