I went a few sentences further, but not many. Too bad, because I agree with the guy; I didn't care at all for MOS. In fact, POS would describe it better.

Christopher Reeve can rest well. No ones' surpassed anything he did in Superman or Superman II.

Are people really supposed to take someone who acts like they are the Hulk seriously?

I think somebody said earlier that the number of Christ symbolisms in this movie was over the top. Can somebody explain where these symbolisms are because I only noticed the crucifixion pose in space that everybody saw in the trailers.

The film was great, imho, even though, at times, it had slow pacing, unnecessarily drawn out action sequences, and even cheesy dialogue. But I left the theater feeling fantastic....like I had just seen a really great film.

I've seen it twice and I still feel that way. My current favorite of the year.

My fave too. I saw World War Z today and I can't believe that movie is liked more than Man of Steel with the critics. It was horrible. What a stupid ending. The Walking Dead t.v show has better zombies and I am Legend is much more gripping than this. MOS got hosed by certain critics. They were going to slam it , because of an agenda they have. I'v lost faith in critics years ago. So far MOS and Star Trek into darkness seem to be the most fun the general audience has had at the movies this summer.

I love how people around the net act like one side of the love/hate for MOS is worse than the other. Yes, there are members here who clearly try to start something with each side. But those few people don't account for every person who love or hate the film.

'Man of Steel' is my favorite movie of the year (so far) too! And it's doing better with both critics AND audiences than my all-time favorite movie! That would be The Majestic (2001) which has a RT score of 42%/58%!

I guess I'm just a sucker for the underdog!

There's also the fact that his father pretty much sent him to Earth to save mankind from the same fate as Krypton. The part where he goes into the church and talks to the priest is a parallel to Jesus asking God if he really has to turn himself over to the Philistines.

Entertaining Video. It has one guy who hated it and one guy who loved it. I wish there were more reviews done like this, instead of just listening to one person hate on it or one person love on it.

How to Fix MAN OF STEEL 2 - YouTube
Today I got myself a snapback Man of Steel hat and a Man of Steel poster for the place I'm going to be moving into later this year. Now doubt I will be seeing this again this weekend since I've already gone 4 times but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

I'll start by saying this film will be remembered as a landmark for comic book movies.

IMO, these are the most important comic book movies ever. Not just for how good they were, but for what they did for the genre in helping to push it forward

1978 - Superman The Movie
1989 - Batman
2002 - Spiderman
2008 - The Dark Knight
2012 - The Avengers
2013 - Man of Steel

[Show spoiler]Man of Steel is such a refreshing take on the comic book movie genre. Just when Disney threatened to drag the genre into the gutter Man of Steel saves it. I say comic book movie but Man of Steel is first and foremost a science fiction film. And it does science fiction bloody well. Sure, there area few small instances of it copying other well known science fiction films, but overall it has more then enough originality to stand on its own.

When we first saw the Kryptonian clothing armor or whatever it is on display before the film's release I and others laughed it off as something from Gladiator. How could I have been so wrong. The wardrobe and technology used in Man of Steel is class A science fiction. If Man of Steel is not nominated for a Costume design academy award something is seriously wrong.

The greatness of Man of Steel is that it does more then simply entertain like other recent comic book movies. It pulls you into the story of an alien in a foreign world, struggling to fit in and live a normal life. If you ever felt like an outacst, then you can sympathize with Clark Kent, but you know his plight is much worse then yours ever was. The scene with young Clark Kent hiding in the storage room is still heart wrenching. Myabe not for those who were always accepted, but for anyone who has ever been alienated, its heart wrenching to watch.

Man of Steel takes several breaks throughout the movie to remind you of the big picture: Clark is an alien struggling in an foreign environment. As a baby he struggles to breathe. Whenever there is calamity he has to make the choice of going to help or not so he doesnt risk his identity. The film drives this point home so as to not let the spectacle drown out its biggest message.

Faora steals every scene she is in. Like other actors in the film Traue adds a layer to her performance through convincing facial expressions. A raised eyebrow here and a smirk there add layers to the character unobtainable through dialogue. Her rivalry with Colonel Hardy is hilarious. I believe in the ending sequence she gives him a face and I thought it was funny as can be.

Speaking of humor, there were only 2 other people in the theater with me. They laughed throughout the entire film. Of course if you only find elementary humor like witty banter and one liners funny you'll be disappointed. If you can appreciate more refined humor, you'll have a blast.

The action scenes to me felt for the first time like I was watching a comic book or animation come to life in live action on screen. This film does not apologize at all and goes all out in recreating fascinating battles of epic power and speed. Nothing is dumbed down so there can be more live action stunt actors involved. There is heavy use of CGI to bring these scenes to life, and I would have it no other way. The final fight between Zod and Superman features a flying sequence that amazed me even more the second time around.

The pace of the film is astonishing and wowed me even more the second time around. I have to seriously question its 2 hours and 23 minute runtime. How is that possible? It feels like 90 minutes. I was sitting there at the theater and I said to myself I cant believe this film is just about over. What happened to the time? Every scene grabs your attention by the balls and wont let go. You have no choice but to focus on the screen. To be fair part of the feeling you get from the pace may be due to the fact theres not a well defined 'middle' section to the film, but either way its a rollercoaster ride that never, ever lets up.

If anything, Hanz Zimmer epic and powerful score is underused. From the very first scene to the final solution with Zod Zimmer's soundtrack elevates what we are seeing on screen to another level.

So yes, Man of Steel saved comic book movies from spiraling into cheap, disposable and forgettable summer entertainment. Maybe if this film was released in November or December people would have gone in expecting something different allowing them to notice the layers here that arent so easily uncovered if your just looking for another noisy blockbuster.

Awesome!

[Show spoiler]One thing I liked about it was just how well Henry Cavill pulled the role off. A lot of people have been comparing him to Christopher Reeve's performance of Superman. You don't compare the two, they portray superman very differently. Reeve's performance was a light hearted, boy scout type Superman. Henry Cavill's superman is a more bad ass Superman, who really shows his human side. when he breaks General Zod's neck to stop him from killing an innocent family, not only is that something Christopher reeve's Superman wouldn't dream of doing, you can also sense that he was angry with himself for doing that. That really shows how human he is, even though he is from another planet.

The pacing of this movie was weird, but lent it's self towards the feel of the movie i thought. The first 1 hour and 30 minutes was developing the characters, and introducing the major plot details, such as why Kal-el(Superman) was sent to earth, and why General Zod is after him. the last hour, however was action packed. buildings are getting destroyed, cars are blowing up, there is destruction everywhere. superman is getting flown everywhere by the villains, and vice versa. although there is a lot of heavy action, it's nothing like Michael Bay's Transformer trilogy, where you can't tell what was going on. i had an itchy eye, and i could stop watching the movie to scratch my eyelid, then look and i could still understand what was going on.

The whole movie was quite humour-less, just as other Zack Snyder movies, such as 300 and Watchmen. there are little bits and pieces that make you laugh, but the overall movie is very humour-less, which i liked, as this was a serious movie for serious people.

Overall, the movie was fantastic, and much better than anything i have seen in a long time.

5/5

To be honest, if we want to continue to see these films, this is the type of enthusiasm we need to show the studios, in order to keep the quality high... and this is high quality, from Snyder and Nolan. Thank you!!
