Personally if it were up to me I'd just hook up the 805 to the Denon (providing the Denon has a multi-channel input). I know myself enough that even if I took a reading, good or bad, I would still hook it all up this way just to confirm what it sounds like.

Hamp, just give the amp a little time to break in. A lot of times people are displeased with how a new piece of gear sounds. What matters most is that the Emo amp is a better quality amp than what is in the Onkyo.

I own a 875 and the pre-amp output voltage has to be lower than normal because I wasn't happy with the initial results I got when I first hooked up my amp. Took me some time playing around to achieve satisfaction.

Heck I could hook up a Lamm to my Onkyo and I will still never be pleased with the results I get. But, that is my personal feelings though.

If you only do home theater, your receiver may be all that you need for your speakers since they are highly efficient. If you do any critical music listening......... Look for a better "quality per watt" low powered amp.

Just give it a few days of break-in though !!!

thanks bigred and sean for the input...
I actually also have a 5.1 Energy Take series Speaker set with 2 TWRs and 3 FPSs... I've been on the fence about keeping these or the Mirage speakers b/c I am using them in a medium to small size room... would my listening experience be better with the Energy set?... and would the UPA-7 improve the sound quality of the Energy set as well... thanks to everyone for all the info... learning a lot from all the posts...

I added a new component into the mix and then it all got worst. I don't play my equipment to make a person go deaf, I have two subs and I have them both turned down less then half way.

I know what distortion sounds like and I don't have mine even close to getting that way.

The customer service guy from emo asked me to turn the gains up talking about that will help, and it sounded real bad at that point. Turning gains up will distort

The bottom line is that this emo amp is producing less then the receiver and I have to turn up the receiver to get the sound close to what it was before, c'mon what is that saying to you?

I will say it again "I have to turn up the volume of the receiver to get it CLOSE to the same level as before".... That statement is not saying I want it loud and louder is better "I have to turn up the volume on the receiver to get it close to the same volume as before"

I really hope the people on this site don't or are not bashing me because of my decision in speakers or because of the receiver I have.

Even if I have the worst speakers that could be bought or even the worst receiver possible, things got WORST when I added the amp.

Talking with Dan from EMO, they feel it's not the amp and it's not possible to have gotten a bad amp. I'm thinking "WoW is your stuff that great it’s just not possible"?

I'm not bashing them and I don't want to be bashed, I'm just telling what happened and I also want to know what the issue is.

Oh, I forgot something to add into this whole mix of things.

The amp was a B-stock and I was NOT the first person to return it, so something besides my low grade speakers and bad receiver is going on here.
i think at this point you should just return the amp. i will say that "forgetting" to mention that this is a "b-stock" amp is your fault. we've been on this wild goose chase all this time and you forgot to mention this until now? that should have been the first thing you mentioned in the first post. we've been trying to help you figure this thing out for a couple of days and now only in the emotional heat of things does this come out. return the amp, get your money back and stay with the Onkyo receiver. Next time you decide to get an amp upgrade and i don't care who makes it either, if you get a "b-stock" or a refurbished one don't forget to mention that on the first post if your having problems with that. more than 85% of the folks would have told you to send it back. we were under the impression that you had a brand new unit, not a used or refurbished or previously owned and resold unit but a brand new one. that is one of the reasons we were going the route we went. to help us help you and ultimately help ourselves, don't leave out information as important to our diagnosis as that. You've got well matched speakers for your receiver to save yourself some headache return the amp and just stick with what you've got.

Solarrdadd,

being a B-sock unit shouldn't really make a difference as it is usually standard policy for a company (not just Emotiva) to thoroughly go over any item that has been returned, and then resold, with a fine tooth comb. I bought a B-stock Outlaw 970, and have had no issues to speak of. But, if Hamp is not happy with the unit, Emotiva policy states, they will take back any product within the 30 day period, "NO QUESTIONS ASKED".

Secondly, this thread topic is also going on at the Emotiva Lounge, and many of the same answers that have been given here, are the same as they are being given there. The most predominant answer seems to be the possibility of low voltage on the Onkyo pre amp outputs.

I would say you probably won't notice difference with energy set either. Not sure though as I'm not familiar with energy 5.1 set u speak of.

Oh I hear ya Animo, I didn't say there was anything wrong with "b-stock" units, i said that should have been in the very first post days ago, not while he was giving the angry speech to us and it just happened to come up as a oh yeah, by the way kinda thing. that's what got to me. i've seen it happen before threads going on for days then someone mentions something that would have helped all of us banging our heads against the wall try to help a long time ago with our thinking. i do hope he and everyone on this site who as for help is able to be helped but if there is anything at all they know about the unit or their situation, that information should be given at the begining not matter what.

i was just reading thou the entire issue with the new amp & the efficient horn speakers...

i don't think the speakers could benefit too great if your running into a problem of the Onkyo being louder then the brand new amp you just dropped money on ,If your own ear's are telling you the Stock receiver is louder...I'd def return it if your unhappy with the results..

horn speakers are so efficient the impressive sound volumes from a normal Receiver alone is good enough,IMO....the main reason most people buy horn speakers is that they won't have to worry about Power Hungry speakers & mess with a any pre-amp's

But i do find it strange you did not notice any bass improvements with F-2 floor speakers on the new pre-amp,it should at least make more of a clean output of bass with the Two 6.5' woofer's on duty...

Default Emo Cables follow-up

i saw this in the emo lounge so, it's better late than never:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cables are here! There is barely any room to move through the warehouse!

Some have already ordered cables, and hopefully, some of you will now.

We DO have specs coming on the cables, and are just waiting for the list from specs from our manufacturer. We will also have some cross-section illustrations showing how the cables are made. We hope to have all this info available in the next few days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

again, i'll be happier when i see it's actually up on the site, but it looks like good news, and of course its from Big Dann G.! I would expect it to be up on the site by Monday or Tuesday of next week, maybe sooner if they really want to make me happy!
