Default Body of Lies

Great Movie! I really enjoyed it. This may be added to another great blind buy. As far as PQ/AQ, it was very well done. Engaging Story.

I really like it too. It's tough to not shoot it down because of it's ridiculous legal implausibilities, but that's the case for almost all courtroom films.

Yea I dont know much about legal/lawyer stuff especially when it comes to the courtroom so obviously I wouldnt have that much of an issue with it so that would make the film brilliant as I wouldnt see certain issues as u would. But u being a law student I can understand. I still need to watch my blu copy of the film. Got Em!!

It's inevitable that courtroom movies will be almost completely inaccurate, so I aim to separate myself in that regard when assessing the movie.

You've gotta watch your blu copy! The PQ is fantastic for this type of film, I was very surprised.

Yea there is so much law that films are bound to make mistakes regarding legal issues. But they figure most of their audience wouldnt being able to locate that and would just simply be there to enjoy the film itself. How dare we point out the movie mistakes while eating popcorn! Haha Got Em!!

Memories of Murder 7/10

I think this movie is an example of a movie being overly praised simply because it's foreign. It's not bad, but I didn't find anything exceptional about it.

Now, if you're Korean, I can imagine it being a lot better, because the story serves as somewhat of an allegory for the political climate of South Korea at the time... but since I'm not Korean nor do I know anything of their history, this means nothing to me.

To me it's just a crime movie, and a good, not great, one.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - Extended Edition

5/5

The movie is as long as the title

This one surprised me a little, I preferred the TE over the EE for Return of the King, unlike Fellowship and Two Towers.

The stuff added in the EE was cool to watch (
[Show spoiler]Aragorn cutting the Mouth of Sauron's head off ftw! )
, but I don't find it improved the movie. Couple that with an extra 50 minutes to the run time, I'd say overall it actually weakened the movie as a whole in my mind.

Not that I didn't like it, I did indeed, I just think that the Theatrical Edition is the better movie, and remains my favorite film.

My favorite scenes were again the Aragorn ones,
[Show spoiler]the extended part with the dead army, the cutting the guys head off, talking to Sauron through the palantir (spelling?) particularly
.

To summarize:

Fellowship: EE > TE but not really by all that much.

Two Towers: EE > TE by a bigger margin, made a great film fantastic imo.

King: TE > EE. Added some good stuff that I liked quite a bit, but as a whole, I feel the TE is the better version.

In the Line of Fire

PQ: 4 stars (out of 5)

AQ: 4 stars (out of 5)

Film: 3 stars (out of 4)

Entertaining despite a common plot. Malkovich is the real highlight here, and Eastwood is solid in his role. The pacing was a bit off to me and Rene Russo's character was a complete waste. That being said, a good film and a good transfer.

One reason is b/c in the eyes of the law, what Samuel L. Jackson did could never be justified. I don't blame him though! That's why it's a movie though. And sure, crazier things have happened in real life. Still a great flick!

It actually could be justified if he hadn't waited to shoot them. If upon finding out about his daughter being raped, he grabbed a gun and went and shot them he could've used one of the "heat of passion" justifictations, since a family member's rape or murder falls within it.

Waiting a day or two removed that defense because the cooling off period had elapsed.

But hey, like you said, it's a movie. All movies require us to remove reason, logic, and reality to some extent and this was no different. Def a fine film!

I actually think it could be justified. I think u take each case by case and go from there. In that case and how the movie took place and especially the ending argument and statements from Matthew I thought it was realistic to get off. Again not sure of all the laws but I do think certain situation of that could be justified. Got Em!!

Ghost Image - A surprisingly decent suspense thriller film. I only wanted to watch it because Stacie Dash was in it. Elisabeth Rohm did a good job in the film. Cool concept but it was easy to figure out the ending. Still it wasnt bad at all. I would rate it 3.5/5 Got Em!!

The bottom line for me is that
[Show spoiler]gunning down 2 men for revenge, while wounding a police officer who then has to get his leg amputated, is illegal.
Simple as that. The entire movie, like Matthew's ending argument, plays on our emotions because the racism displayed is so disgusting.

That said, I am a big fan of vigilante justice when it comes to movies. When it comes to real life, I think it can be debated on a moral level, but not a legal one.

Not a fantastic movie, but pretty darn good. Crowe does good and so does McAdams.

PQ - 4.5/5
