Sure hope the US gets that steelbook. I'll take that over the lame US 3D coverart.

I don't think that steelbook cover looks good at all.

Yeah, that steelbook is rather ugly.

I miss New Line.

Really? It's only the 3D discs? Yeah, I will definitely pass on that.

Pics of the inside of the box have been revealed! While this is the DVD version, it does give an idea of what the blu-ray editions will look like:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...2&linkCode=as2

Though it does make me wonder if the DVD version is meant to match the DVD LOTR EE book design, while the blu-rays will be in black cases to match the blu-ray LOTR EE...

Well I like that the insides of the box match the old EEs at least.

Love how it looks consistent with the old dvd extended editions of The Lord of the Rings. Exactly what I wanted to see.

They should re-release the LOTR titles with that style.

I think they will be some day, but I guess that's for the ultimate edition, because remember LOTR trilogy and The Hobbit don't work perfectly as one unique collection because we still see Ian Holm as young Bilbo in the FOTR prologue...

I guess the Ultimate Middle Earth edition will have to be truly wonderful, with both trilogies matching perfectly.

I hope that they don't scale it back for the 2D blu-ray package and only have the movie on one panel and the extras doubled up on another. Ideally the 3D blu-ray would have the same sort of layout as the DVD version (same number of discs I believe) and the 3-disc 2D release has a disc per panel.

At least they're not stacked Disney style - directly on top of each other like in a spindle of blank CDs.

I am, but as always... as long as the original was also available.

Unfortunately, aside from the discs they don't really match up. I loved the LOTR EE DVD packaging though, still have it despite the blu-ray versions making the DVD version obsolete. It is just too cool a package to ever sell or trade.
